This is our top contender name for DD. Well known name, internationally used and uncomplicated pronunciation. I can imagine it suiting a child and an adult.

I was wondering how common it is where you are in babies/toddlers atm?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I vaguely know one who is in her 40s. I’m not a big fan of it but it seems to be quite well-liked from the other responses.

But definitely not common which I guess is your main concern.

i know a grown-up Nina, and a kid one. Love the name!

wafflesmgee · 06/07/2024 22:02

Nope, and I've never taught one in 10 years at primary schools either

DirtyCheeseBurger · 06/07/2024 22:07

Absolutely love it.

Darkfire · 06/07/2024 22:10

I know two in their 50s.
It’s a name I really dislike but
judging by this thread it’s a well liked name.

shockeditellyou · 06/07/2024 22:11

Quite a lot in Cambridge right now - early teens and younger.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 06/07/2024 22:12

East London here. Know 6 aged between 7 and 11.

ArdMhaca · 06/07/2024 22:13

One little Nina in my family (5)

Portfun24 · 06/07/2024 22:14

I've only ever known one girl who was in my 19 year olds year at school. I like it.

It's clearly not made it up north then!😂
If you like Nina you could also consider Erin or Etta, similar vibes

QuiltedHippo · 06/07/2024 22:16

Zero! It's around 140th on the baby name lists - I know as it was our 2nd choice girls name, loved it for all the reasons you mentioned.

Leonarda89 · 06/07/2024 22:16

This was my top choice if I was having a girl this time but I'm having a boy, I love it! I only know of one in her 30s

stressedespresso · 06/07/2024 23:53

One in her early 20s and another in mid teens

Marmite27 · 06/07/2024 23:54

Firsttimebabymummy · 07/07/2024 04:53

Scissor · 07/07/2024 05:00

One who is pronounced Nine-a, lovely person, 50's.

Nogardenersworld · 07/07/2024 05:06

I know a 3 yr old and a 30 something. I think it’s a lovely name

Footle · 07/07/2024 07:05

@MistyHazelFox , my great aunt was a Nine-a. Born to Irish immigrants in NW England in 1890-something. I've never heard of another. Do you think it's a regional pronunciation?

RuthW · 07/07/2024 07:09

One in her 20s. Never met another.

JanglyBeads · 07/07/2024 07:19

Folks, the OP asked whether you currently know any babies called Nina, not ones in their teens/20s/30s/40s/50s+......

JimNast · 07/07/2024 12:16

@JanglyBeads , I only know 4 little babies and none of them are called Nina.

OctaviaRedQueen · 08/07/2024 06:59

I don’t know any. South West.

Brexile · 08/07/2024 10:11

Around 1980 I had a lovely babysitter called Nina, who would have been in her mid to late teens. Last year I taught a 12 year old French Nina (who was a pain in the derrière).

Is it a "real" name or is it short for something? The only thing I can think of that it might be short for is Annina, which would make it a diminutive of a diminutive if Annina is from Anna.
