I love it, but I have just read a post on a US board where a gentleman with good taste wants to call his son Peter.

All the posters think it is dull and common and that he will be teased.

I said that names like Henry and William are on the up in the US and Peter is sure to become more popular there too.

So what do you think?

Love it or hate it?

(I can't understand why it is so hated in the Us)

Now Give me some peter comments.

It is my dads name so it must be fab.

BigBadMouse · 09/04/2008 21:06

I think Peter is a lovely name - I don;t like Pete but I know a fair few 'Peters' (older generations) who are never referred to as Pete - I think it is a short enough name to not require any further shortening. Not sure why it is so hated in the US but then 'tis a very different culture - they see nothing funny about calling a boy Randy

Michael is a great name and second place on our list for DS due in a few weeks - can't see what is wrong with that at all - very adaptable IMO.

misdee · 09/04/2008 21:12

of course Peter id s lovely name [winl]

Katisha · 09/04/2008 21:13

DS1 has it for a middle name and there is a boy in his class with it as first name - no teasing whatseoever.

UniversallyChallenged · 09/04/2008 21:14

sorry, but MC did want honesty - i hate it

MissPaulaYates · 09/04/2008 21:21

My dad's names are Michael Peter so I can't help thinking of them as names for an older person but I don't have anything against either of them .

I know a Michael who is 2 and a Peter who is 3.

ilovewashingnappies · 09/04/2008 21:29

Why would anyone get teased for being called Peter? Perfectly nice name imo.

Ds' mn too

snowleopard · 09/04/2008 22:09

It's the contractions of those names that sound old to me - Pete, Mike, Steve etc - men in the pub. Not cool old, like Archie or Stanley, just medium old. I didn't know any young Michaels before this baby but I stand corrected. But if Peter ad Michael are growing in popularity, can Keith be far behind?

jingleyjen · 09/04/2008 22:11

baby keith was born on another baby board about 6 weeks ago..

snowleopard · 09/04/2008 22:15

I'm so not with it.

hoxtonchick · 09/04/2008 22:23

Booboobedoo · 09/04/2008 22:32

S'lovely.

LaDiDaDi · 09/04/2008 23:55

I like it and think it is due for a resurrgence.

Tinker · 10/04/2008 00:00

Can't see a Peter being teased but I don't like it. I see it as a cold name, not sure why.
