Just got back from the park where we met a child called Tiara. Obviously I can't vouch for the spelling but thought all you expectant mummies would be dying to add that one to your lists...

Did she had a twin called "Crystal"?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 09/04/2008 19:07

meh

nell12 · 09/04/2008 19:08

claricebeansmum · 09/04/2008 19:09

Or "Shandaleer"?

claricebeansmum · 09/04/2008 19:09

or "Perl"?

makealist · 09/04/2008 19:11

I've heard of a mum who has named her daughter Twinkle.

thehouseofmirth · 09/04/2008 19:24

Is this not a form of child abuse? Or do you think it's character building?

Have I made this up or is it Portugal where there is a list of names approved by the State from which you are allowed to chose? Would that be better or worse do you think?

I'm pretty sure Switzerland is the same, houseofmirth. Dd was born there and I seem to remember a list of names approved by the Canton and you had to choose from it. Not sure if foreigners (ie not Swiss Nationals) were exempt though.

moondog · 09/04/2008 19:31

In France the same. My sister had a hell of a job getting some of her kids' names (Welsh) through. Seem to recall it is ok if someone has used it before, so French baby mags full of letters from peeps reporing use of bizarre names.

chocolateshoes · 09/04/2008 19:31

it certainly used to be like that in France....

pattymc · 09/04/2008 19:31

I know someone with a dd called sparkle and I also have a friend called Tiana but she's french, does that make it ok? she also happens to look like a model so that helps

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 09/04/2008 19:36

I intend to name any further children by my MN nicknames... Think of me when you hear a harrassed woman scream "Noonoo, stop kicking that small child!"

kayzisexpecting · 09/04/2008 19:37

When I was at work today I served a lady with a young girl sat in the trolley and she asked the little girl to tell me her name. It was...............

Roxanne Pearl Tigerlilly Sophia Myleene Jones.

Her mum then said to me "But we just call her Roxy"

< my face looked like that.

runawayquickly · 09/04/2008 19:38

PMSL

kayzisexpecting · 09/04/2008 19:39

My collegue nearly did runaway. She had to walk away as she couldn't stop laughing.

MadameCh0let · 09/04/2008 19:40

I could cope with just Roxy, nmsaa, but Roxy on its own is feisty in a contemporary way. It wil fit in between the Lexies and Rosies.

Tiger Lily and Myleene are too slave2slebridee! And then in the middle of it all, The very normal Sophia!! That name is like a collection of train carriages all heading in different directions.

MadameCh0let · 09/04/2008 19:42

Actually, I know this isn't really bad, it's just that she is the youngest one I know, BUT, one of the mums at my dd's school is Diana. She is about 30. Her dd is five.

My Mum has a friend called Diana and that doesn't seem worth commenting on. But I was dying to ask the 30 yr old if she was named after LadyDi. Or is that a stupid question! There actuallly aren't that many. I think Kylie has more girls named after her.

kayzisexpecting · 09/04/2008 19:43

I quite like Roxy, it is on our list for names but altogether its horrible. That poor girl especially when/if she gets married and has to reel all that of.

Her mum said she couldn't pick 1 name.

One of my cousins was born on the day Diana and Charles got married and my Aunt called her Diana Charlotte in honour of them.

I always wanted Mum to have named me Tigerlily until i was about 17, lol.

kayzisexpecting · 09/04/2008 19:46

She isn't to keen on her name Malory, considering what happened with them getting divorced.
