Like Lord or like Lord-ez?

Any thoughts or similar names?

In French “lords” but in Spanish it’s Lord-es” so it would depend on where I was!

Steelasprey · 21/06/2024 16:04

As in more than one Lourde.

Onelifeonly · 21/06/2024 16:05

The Spanish speaker I know with this name pronounces it 'Lord-ez'.

The French place name, a place of pilgrimage, is pronounced Lords, in English anyway.

Westfacing · 21/06/2024 16:06

Loor dez

fridaynight1 · 21/06/2024 16:10

Depends where you are

Lords if you are UK
Lord if you are French
Lordez if you are Spanish

And hundreds of other ways

maw1681 · 21/06/2024 16:11

Lords (in English anyway)

CelesteCunningham · 21/06/2024 16:13

I would say Lords for the place of pilgrimage (sort of) and Lord-ezz for Madonna's daughter, and probably a toss up for which I'd guess for a stranger's name. Probably the second since it's a name.

I think this would be a difficult name to live with, and I'd assume the parents were very religious or else Madonna fans. Grin

KreedKafer · 21/06/2024 16:15

It's a French city and the French pronunciation is similar to 'lourd'.

'Lour-dez' is the Spanish name for Lourdes. So saying 'Lour-dez' is kind of akin to saying 'Londres' or 'Londra' instead of London.

hobbledyhoy · 21/06/2024 15:34

Loordz

This, although with a very slight difference in pronunciation of the two Os

Scissorsisters · 21/06/2024 16:19

I know one, she is lords.

MavisPennies · 21/06/2024 16:20

lou-erds (same as the Catholic pilgrimage place)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/06/2024 16:25

If it is the religious connection you're after how about 'Knock'?

(pronounced Nok)

ClaudiaWankleman · 21/06/2024 16:31

The religious pilgrimage site is pronounced differently in French than it is in English (and it's not just Lords either - the vowel is different). I would pronounce it as a name as I would pronounce it in French.

MateysMusing · 21/06/2024 16:37

You wouldnt say the "S". It's Lord with a longer "o" sound

KirstenBlest · 21/06/2024 16:37

LooRd

50shadedofmagnolia · 21/06/2024 16:41

Lords

Gabbsters · 21/06/2024 16:43

I would use the Spanish pronunciation Lord-ez as I’ve never come across the French version as a personal name.

SuperFishy · 21/06/2024 16:45

Lor-dez, as the pilgrimage town is pronounced.

ThePoshUns · 21/06/2024 16:45

Lor-dez

KnickerlessParsons · 21/06/2024 16:46

Like the town, so Loords

KnickerlessParsons · 21/06/2024 16:46

Or Looord

dontstopwontstop · 21/06/2024 16:50

LOR - DEZ

MateysMusing · 21/06/2024 16:53

Since when is Lourdes in Spain? It's in France and the S is silent.

I would say if you wanted to call the kid Lordez then just spell it as Lordez.

Greengrapeofhome · 21/06/2024 16:55

Lord ez

I don’t like it however it’s pronounced though

muddyford · 21/06/2024 16:56

Lou-erd.
