Thoughts on Teyla for the girl? What comes to mind?

OP posts:

My God some people are rude on here. Just because a name isn't to your taste.

Stargate Atlantis
Teyla

Like you want a girl called Taylor, but want to make it ‘unique’, and like you probably like Taylor Swift. 😬

PuddingAunt · 14/06/2024 18:40

I like it. It works as a name.
Also works as a snobbery detector.
The spelling Thela transforms it into a sophistication test.

StripedPiggy · 14/06/2024 18:55

“Sigh…. No, it’s not Taylor. It’s Teyla. T-E-Y-L-A. Teyla.”

Repeat time after time after time for the whole of her life….

Needmorelego · 14/06/2024 19:09

@StripedPiggy yes but even if it's a surname it can be spelt two different ways.
Tailor
Taylor

longdistanceclaraclara · 14/06/2024 21:57

Why?

user1492757084 · 16/06/2024 12:45

Taylor Swift indicates the most expected spelling.

Why go for any other version and have your child spelling out her name ??

Saschka · 16/06/2024 12:49

Gymmum82 · 14/06/2024 15:07

I’d also pronounce it Tee la just to be annoying

Teela is no better

It's a fictional name ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teyla_Emmagan

from a science fiction series Stargate Atlantis. I think that's where the OP got it from!

That’s what I thought too!

Sorrelia · 19/06/2024 17:28

It's a really bad name, it's not a name actually. Sorry!

poppymango · 19/06/2024 17:32

Taylor is a million times better. Honestly.

There was a kid on Dance Mums UK a few years ago called Tayluer and I cringed for her every time she came on the screen. I hope she changed it as soon as she was able.

Honestly if I asked for an opinion on something like a baby name on here I would want 100% honesty. Otherwise you may as well just ask your mates who wouldn't have the guts to tell you what they really think. Sometimes bluntness is best!

Teacherprebaby · 19/06/2024 17:55

Tesla immediately sorry

Needmorelego · 19/06/2024 18:07

@poppymango there's a lot of names I don't like.
Some I think sound horrible.
Some are simply not to my taste.
But some of what people on here are saying is downright rude and insulting (ie "it's a bit chav" etc).
I would not say that to a friend.
The only time I would say something would be if the name had a meaning that I might be worried they aren't aware of - but I would say something like "are you sure.... because that actually means.....".
There's"bluntness" and is being rude.

I understand what you’re saying, but the fact that you wouldn’t say it to a friend is precisely the point. Our friends rarely tell us the blunt truth even if you ask for it.

If a name makes 90% of people think “chav” then that might be something the mum would want to take into consideration. Simply saying “it’s not to my taste” is very nice and polite, but not actually very helpful.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/06/2024 18:13

Hideous with that spelling. What's wrong with Taylor?

Needmorelego · 19/06/2024 18:26

@poppymango it's the word "chav" I really don't like on these threads.
It's already a very dated term and - to be blunt (😂)- just makes people sound like a snob when they use it.

It’s a very outdated and unpleasant term, you right. Nevertheless for some generations it’s what springs to mind - it’s the Vicky Pollard stereotype. We all make instant judgements based on very superficial things, unfortunately.

Hayliebells · 19/06/2024 18:43

Awful

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 19/06/2024 18:43

No.
