Thoughts on Teyla for the girl? What comes to mind?

OP posts:

I don't like the pronunciation of the Tey bit, it sounds quite harsh to me. Taylor is fine. Not .y choice but perfectly acceptable. At absolute minimum acceptable would be Tayla

Gingerkittykat · 14/06/2024 14:20

How do you pronounce it? Is it the same sounds as Taylor or something different?

Friendofdennis · 14/06/2024 14:21

She will hear the question ‘how do you spell that ?’ Every day of her life

IthinkIamAnAlien · 14/06/2024 14:21

It's a fictional name ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teyla_Emmagan

from a science fiction series Stargate Atlantis. I think that's where the OP got it from!

Chav. Probably friends with Vicky Pollard.

Yes agree, very chavvy

AstonMartha · 14/06/2024 14:29

What comes to mind?

Taylor is what comes to mind.

Taylor is lovely. Teyla isn’t.

If you don’t like Taylor how about Tia?

Pemba · 14/06/2024 14:30

Dislike it. As pps have said, it just looks like you can't spell Taylor. (and I don't like Taylor anyway, surname, occupation, why, when there are so many lovely girls' names?)
Not very classy either. If you like the sound, Kayla is marginally better, but has a similar vibe. Or Laila is lovely, and has a history and more class.

Firsttimebabymummy · 14/06/2024 14:37

A chavvy Taylor who's parents can't spell. Sorry.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/06/2024 14:37

yoshiblue · 14/06/2024 14:04

Sounds chavvy - sorry!

I'm afraid so.

Needmorelego · 14/06/2024 14:38

I know a couple of girls (teenage age) who have it spelt Tayla.
Personally I don't think it's a terrible as half the names suggested on here. It's fine.
(and "chav" is a horrible word)

Spendonsend · 14/06/2024 14:38

I think it sounds pretty and is nicer than Taylor

But, being realistic, it would attract a negative reaction from people as people are quite conservative about names.

Fontainebleau007 · 14/06/2024 14:42

No definitely spell it Taylor if that's how it's pronounced. X

Treestumpp · 14/06/2024 14:47

Im loving the hate on these threads. When did names go from names to any old crap people decided to make up?!

Pinkfan2024 · 14/06/2024 14:47

I know a Tyla and a Tyler (girls) so I would wonder if it was a weird spelling of Taylor or Tyler.

SNMummy2024 · 14/06/2024 14:47

I would assume you had an washing machine in your front garden, 7 pitbulls, a 'live laugh love' sign hanging up in your living room, and sat at home drinking carlsberg and stella all day.

Balloonhearts · 14/06/2024 14:56

Immediate association is Teyla from stargate atlantis. But I don't dislike the name. I think of Taylor as a boys name so just looks a bit more female.

Sue152 · 14/06/2024 15:03

I'd think the child was named by a 13 year old who was desperate to be younique. Fictional names are never good IMO.

CurryOnRegardless · 14/06/2024 15:04

What about Tala like the lovely actress in Macdonald and Dodds?
(I assume pronounced Tah-la)

Moveoverdarlin · 14/06/2024 15:05

First thought was the Tesla car. Second thought was it was a chav would was trying to be quirky by spelling Taylor as Teyla.

It’s not a name.

Gymmum82 · 14/06/2024 15:07

I’d think you were either bad at spelling or a try hard thinking of a ‘unique’ way of spelling Taylor. Either way it’s awful

Gymmum82 · 14/06/2024 15:07

I’d also pronounce it Tee la just to be annoying

Screamingabdabz · 14/06/2024 15:12

My dd had a classmate called ‘Taylah’ - ugh it still makes me cringe. I’m sure the mum thought it was ’different’ but yes dear reader, pure chav, and pregnant at 15.

Dontgetdebtpet · 14/06/2024 15:15

Awful. Don't do it. That poor child

BitOutOfPractice · 14/06/2024 15:18

How are you saying it? Taylor? In which case just spell it Taylor.

Or is it Tiler?

in either case, it’s a no from me. Sounds made up / try hard.

unless it’s Swedish or Hungarian or whatever your background is. Either way she’ll be spelling / explaining it all her life.

Sorry but🤣🤣🤣🤣
