Is it a bit 'Alfie', or is it in a different league?

We are still very keen on Finlay, and I really like Theo and Louis but hubby is keen to keep it Scottish.

Oh, and what would you favour - Finlay or Archie?

Thank you again!

ha ha!

Moondog, are Irish people allowed to use Scottish names? Or should they step away too?

EllenJane · 06/04/2008 20:42

Hehe MC, made me chuckle, I love the word bint - raises a smile every time!

Just researched (i'm very quick) - Fergus is both Scottish and Irish. I'll mention it to husband. He's so set on Finlay though(and I think it's still my fav. too), I think he'll rubbish any other suggestion.

Can't have Hamish.. there's one in the family already!

You couldn't rule out names for being characters!!

Finlay fire engine, rory car, barney dinosaur, Annabel the doll, Olivia the doll, milo the tweenie, max the tweenie,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

and on and on. Half your child's class will share his/her name with a fire engine or a doll.

My ds is v friendly with a lovely boy called Archie. I am friendly with the parents. Would never have thought of using that name myself, but you get used to anything on other people's children.

Peapodlovescuddles · 06/04/2008 21:50

Yep madamech0let! we were waa-ay ahead lol, have just had a baby Flossie so watch out for that in 15 years time

ja9 · 06/04/2008 21:52

ja9 · 06/04/2008 21:53

oh i thing i'd really like another wee boy... [longing expression]

scotagm · 06/04/2008 22:14

My son is an Archie. Biased, I know, but I love it.

Never thought of it as popular but might have to concede that it is becoming more so.

MadameCh0let · 07/04/2008 10:23

Ellenjane, Bruce is my little boy's mn!!

It was that or James. {wink}

MadameCh0let · 07/04/2008 10:25

Wow peapod, Flossie? Not Florence on the BC? You are avante-garde!!

I don't doubt you though, I will be listenning out for Flossies, but not for a while.... Let me know if you hear "Come back here now Bruce!" called out.

chopchopbusybusy · 07/04/2008 10:36

Archie is a great name and is becoming more popular now. If looking for a Scottish name how about Fraser or Campbell. Surnames as first names have always been very popular in Scotland.

SlipOfTheTongue · 07/04/2008 16:40

Archie for me just conjurs up images of that slightly sinister man in pink on Ballamory...

Amy71 · 15/04/2008 23:15

Archie is downmarket in my opinion. The others on your list are much classier.

wessexgirl · 15/04/2008 23:23

Florence/Flossie is lovely. But Archie/Archibald - nooooo! Go with Finlay.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 15/04/2008 23:26

Murray is Scottish

Hamish is the gaelic version of James

SheSellsSanctury · 16/04/2008 11:14

If DD had been a boy she would have been called Murray. I think it is a lovely name.

Finlay is nice but not very scottish anymore. Also 2 girls in DS nursery class called this.
