Like apple core rah

Greengrapeofhome · 01/06/2024 15:46

To rhyme with flora, Laura, Dora and poorer (in my accent)

jannier · 01/06/2024 15:50

Depends if you have a lisp

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 01/06/2024 15:54

Core-a to rhyme with Dora, Flora, Nora. In my (Scottish) accent, Laura is a different phoneme, pronounced Law-ra. None of these sound the same as words ending -er/-ar and Coral is Caw-ril rather than Core-ril.

Inmynotgivingafuckera · 01/06/2024 15:56

Core - a

Co - ra (like co op)

deeahgwitch · 01/06/2024 16:03

Core ah

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/06/2024 16:06

Eh? A lisp affects pronunciation of the 's' sound.

CelynMelyn · 01/06/2024 16:06

Core- a. Otherwise it would be spelt Corra, with 2 R’s

Pemba · 31/05/2024 20:40

To rhyme with Dora, Flora and Nora.
I wasn't aware there was a different pronunciation?

I now want kittens called Dora, Flora, Nora and Cora.

Bbq1 · 01/06/2024 16:38

Bbq1 · 01/06/2024 16:38

Corea

Eh?
Cora will pronounced as Corea? Where does the E feature in Cora?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/06/2024 16:41

The poster meant the sound 'core' (i.e. the word core, which doesn't sound the 'e' on the end), followed by the sound 'a'.

Same as aurally and orally don't sound exactly the same.

They do to me!

Honestly, you can't tell difference between aural test and oral test?

How would you manage with a language exam? You wouldn't know which test was on which day - speaking or listening!!!

I'm quite interested to know what accent this is! ( ESOL teacher here)

KirstenBlest · 01/06/2024 16:59

@valorie ,
aural
[ˈɔːr(ə)l]
oral
[ˈɔːr(ə)l]

but I'd not say them exactly the same

Notreat · 01/06/2024 17:00

Core-ah

abracadabra1980 · 01/06/2024 17:04

Corr-a

mathanxiety · 01/06/2024 17:19

Core-ah.

Are the people saying Corr-a saying "Corr" as a short O sound?

There is only one R so it should be a long O sound.

Cyclingforcake · 01/06/2024 13:55

I think in American English it’s more Corra. Listen to how Lady Cora says her name in Downton compared to how the Brits say her name.
Tara can sound more like Terra with an American accent too.

It's Caw-ra or Core-ah in America, at least where I live. It's a popular name where I live. It's not a short O regardless of the regional accent.

Maelil01 · 01/06/2024 17:23

No, it’s an Irish name and its
Core - a

SomeBollocks · 01/06/2024 17:24

One of the reasons we chose Cora was that there would be no issues with pronunciation. Clearly we were wrong 😬🤣

TealDog · 01/06/2024 17:25

Like Coar-a

Name your child Cora and her name will be pronounced Cora OP.

There is no other pronounciation. It’s a beautiful name ❤️

Maelil01 · 01/06/2024 17:26

MumblesParty · 01/06/2024 16:23

Rhymes with Dora, Laura, flora

???
Laura doesn’t rhyme with either Flora or Cora
Flor - a
Core - a
Law -ra
