Hi everyone,

I want to call my daughter Olivia Mae and i love the shortened version 'Livvie'. My mum likes Olivia but says Livvie is chav!!

I know it doesnt matter what she thinks and i dont suppose it really makes a difference but i just wanted different peoples opinions from all over - as i dont know any Livvies / Olivias!!!

i just read mae is a idea for a middle nme i like that too

Aitch · 05/04/2008 12:14

it's a lovely name in both forms. it's pretty popular though, that's the only reason i can see for not picking it. livvie is v cute.

Egg · 05/04/2008 12:16

Have never thought of Olivia, or Liv or Livvy etc as chavvy.

No19 · 05/04/2008 12:28

I really wish people would stop using the word chavvy and stop being bothered about whether they are going to appear "chavvy" or not. Where does all the snobbery spring from?

Olivia is a beautiful name (so is Livia, by the way) and if you like it and any of the potential diminutives - Livvy, Liv, Olly - then you should use it, of course, and not be worried about other people's perceptions.

Aitch · 05/04/2008 12:49

i totally agree, no19. if you like the name, you like it. chavvy is such an ugly thing to think about people, says much more about you than them.

isaidno · 05/04/2008 13:02

I like Olivia, but Livvie makes me think of lavatory for some reason.

Kezza7779 · 05/04/2008 15:48

Windygales - it would be Olivia Mae Stevens! I think it sounds really posh! and the shoretened version - Livvie Mae sounds well cute! Im glad noone on here thiks it chav etc, i was quite upset at the prospect to be honest. All of Your comments have really helped me decide for sure its the right name for my little bubba - thanks millions xx

olivia is the most popular girls name of 2007. which means that even if it is used my posh people now, the chavs will be making it their own in no time at all... look at bugaboos! [bugaboo users don't shoot me, please}

windygalestoday · 05/04/2008 17:00

kezza thats a fab name very pretty and catchy

MrsMattie · 05/04/2008 17:05

Agree Olivia is very pretty and very popular. I know three little girls with the name aged under 3 yrs old. Also agree with whoever said Livia is a nice alternative. I love Liv as a shortened version.

branflake81 · 05/04/2008 17:15

Actually, I think "Mae" is quite chavvy.......

alexandre · 05/04/2008 17:25

My niece Olivia (year 4) is the only Olivia in her school of 200 pupils so there aren't too many of that age although there may be more younger ones . We call her Olivia, her parents call her Ollii (emphasis on the "I) but her school friends call her Livvie or Livylou.

Purplemoon · 05/04/2008 17:28

What a beautiful name, Not at all "chav" IMHO

Kezza7779 · 28/04/2008 22:04

how is mae chav? its my middle name!!!!!!

josta · 28/04/2008 22:30

Olivia is pretty, but I'm sorry I don't like Mae, if anything is ' chavvy ' it's Mae, sorry. Maybe it would be better spelt May??

SixSpotBurnet · 28/04/2008 22:32

Livvie is cute.

Why are people so obsessed with whether a name is "chavvy" though? I really hate that, sorry.

MadamePlatypus · 28/04/2008 22:39

Mae lovely middle name IMO and great with Olivia and Livvy.

pooka · 28/04/2008 22:40

Livvy and Olivia are great names and certainly not chavvy.
I'm not too keen on Mae spelt that way - prefer May (though I think Mae West was spelt your way). I just think it looks odd, though is a lovely name.

puffling · 28/04/2008 22:41

I've never heard of a chavvy Livvie, or even a chavvy Olivia. Believe me, I've taught in the chavviest school and there were no Olivias there. Lots of baby chavs have the Mae appendage, well the ones in the birth annoucements of our local paper do.

Olivia is a fab name and not at all chavvy.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 28/04/2008 23:04

definatly not chavvy lovely name

Cecy · 29/04/2008 01:39

At no.3 in the stats, so v.popular. It is so popular that it is likely to be used by all classes and is neither "posh" nor "chav" in my opinion.
I think Livvy makes a cute nickname for Olivia.

Sidge · 29/04/2008 15:46

I love it but then I am biased as I have one

Mine is the only one in her whole nursery, and there are none at her elder sister's school, so not common round here at all.

Kezza7779 · 29/04/2008 17:04

as i say my middle name is mae (spelt like this) it was my great great nans first name and i wanted to keep it in the family. i was doubting olivia not mae! Mae is staying! its only a middle name i guess!
