Pronounced Deena

What do you think of it?

I was just thinking about a little girl that I used to babysit in Spain. She was called Dina.
I've never heard it since. I thought it was such a lovely name

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ILikePistachios · 19/05/2024 20:09

Hate it

Jojobees · 19/05/2024 20:09

She will have to correct every new person she meets. If you want Deena have Deena. Dina is Diner spelled differently.

Carly944 · 19/05/2024 20:11

Ah she was so cute though. It really suited her

I don't know why I dislike it but I do.

DisforDarkChocolate · 19/05/2024 20:13

Honestly, we live in such a multicultural society that Dina is a not going to be a lifetime of correcting people.

I think it's very pretty @Carly944.

ILikePistachios · 19/05/2024 20:13

If you're thinking of using it and love the name OP, go for it, don't care what anyone else thinks. You asked for opinions, don't let negative ones change your mind

BlueJamSandwich · 19/05/2024 20:16

I knew a Dinah and a few Deanas. Never meet a Deena or a Dina though.

PercyPigSocks · 19/05/2024 20:16

I like it (and you’ve just reminded me of some great Dina Carroll songs I loved in the late 90s; thanks!)

I would have thought the pronunciation was well known (Deena as you say). Dinah is a different name and pronounced differently

Always28 · 19/05/2024 20:18

I really love it

It's Dina Carroll & Dinah Washington right?

BoleynMemories13 · 19/05/2024 20:21

I know one, spelt and pronounced this way (adult). She is Indian.

I don't think it will have major pronunciation issues as it rhymes with Tina and Nina. I seems pretty obvious to me.

Personally I prefer Nina but Dina is ok.

Heatedblanky · 19/05/2024 20:22

I know a Dina (from Russia) but she’s calling herself Diana now for some reason.

BoleynMemories13 · 19/05/2024 20:23

Dina Asher-Smith is quite a well known athlete too, who also pronounces it as you want. Honestly I don't think it's problematic at all.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/05/2024 20:28

I'm not a fan I'm afraid. There's something too harsh sounding about it. It also reminds me of DNA, or dinner, lol. I'm not a fan of Diane, Diana etc either but that's just me.
There are loads of cool Spanish names though.

BiPolarBabe · 19/05/2024 20:33

Not a fan but that's because it's my aunt's dog's name and I now associate it with Staffies not humans.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 19/05/2024 20:37

I have a friend who pronounces her name the way you like, but hers is spelt “Dena”.

This was exactly where my brain went when I saw the name! She is an incredibly accomplished runner 😊

IOYOYO · 19/05/2024 20:57

I love it. I know a Dina, she’s lovely and very cool!

NetMum2 · 19/05/2024 20:59

I personally much prefer Nina or even Deanna

VeraForever · 19/05/2024 21:00

Dina is a nickname. I wouldn't have it as a first name.

PrincessOfPreschool · 19/05/2024 21:10

My aunt is Dina short for Delfina which I think is gorgeous.

I know a 3yo Deanna (Dee-anna) who is super cute.

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/05/2024 21:59

I like it - a pretty name for all ages and rarely used but not “out there”.

Ketzele · 19/05/2024 22:25

I like it. I was at school with a girl called Dina (sister of Julia Sawalha).

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/05/2024 22:27

I’d go Dinah (pronounced di-ner) as to me that’s more classic.

As @NetMum2 says I’d prefer Nina to Dina.

Bristolnewcomer · 19/05/2024 22:29

I think it’s lovely
