What's your opinion?

Toddlerteaplease · 11/05/2024 12:53

It's a dogs name.

Toottooot · 11/05/2024 12:54

Name for a dug - woof.

TheShellBeach · 11/05/2024 12:54

It's a surname.

sweetnessandlighter · 11/05/2024 12:57

I know a woman with a DS called Cooper. His big brother is Jackson. I wouldn't normally go for surname type names, but they work for her DSs.

ClipClopperDontStopper · 11/05/2024 12:57

I just suggested it on another thread as an alternative to Mason. I did say it might be predominantly used for dogs now though.

I quite like it. I like Wyatt too which has a similar American vibe.

But, OP, names like this will never get the MN seal of approval. You need Godfrey or something along those lines for that.

cherryassam · 11/05/2024 13:01

I’m of the age where Cooper is the hot uncle in One Tree Hill.

I do also know a very lively Vizla called Cooper though.

It’s very American, and like @ClipClopperDontStopper says, there are some names which will never get the MN seal of approval even if many other people think they’re nice

FayCarew · 11/05/2024 13:01

Super dooper

raspberryberet7 · 11/05/2024 13:01

I like it but could be biased as I know a couple of coopers and they're both lovely

mum2jakie · 11/05/2024 17:15

If you like surname style names, have you considered Harrison, Miller or Morgan?

RogueFemale · 11/05/2024 17:37

Why would you name a baby after a person whose job is making barrels?

OutOfTheHouse · 11/05/2024 17:39

It’s a bit old hat. I teach primary and there are a lot of Coopers. They are mainly 10 years old or so.

jonnyjanetkeogh · 11/05/2024 17:41

It makes me think Mini but that isn't a bad thing. My friend has a son named Cooper and he does suit it. It's not an awful name, it's sweet and does look nice written down IMO (other MNers May have different opinions of course)

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 11/05/2024 17:42

It’s a dog’s name (never met one while teaching but know a collie, red setter and a mongrel who all share the name).

Durdledore · 11/05/2024 17:43

no thanks

CranfordScones · 11/05/2024 17:54

Honestly, I also thought it's a dog's name.

greglet · 11/05/2024 17:56

I don't mind it, but I quite like American surnamey first names (as long as they're correctly spelled!).

GCITC · 11/05/2024 17:56

After the wonderous Ben Cooper KC?

I think I'd go with Ben over Cooper.

tongsatdawn · 11/05/2024 17:59

I’m very old and sometimes struggle with “modern” names but I think Coup (phonetically) as a nickname is fabulous.

Moreteaandchocolate · 11/05/2024 18:14

Sorry I’m not too keen

PickleJelly · 11/05/2024 18:29

I absolutely love the name Cooper! As PP said, a nickname of coop is also lovely.

CJ0374 · 11/05/2024 18:34

A cousin abroad has a 10yr old Cooper. I really liked the name, but have to agree that lots of dogs a named in now 😬

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/05/2024 19:15

I love it which is strange because it’s in the Mason and Harrison group of names so I should detest it. I picture a really polite and sweet gentle little boy.

Skybluepinky · 11/05/2024 19:19

A dogs name.

angelshine123 · 29/05/2024 21:10

Hate it

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/05/2024 22:56

I don’t think it’s the nicest sounding of the surnames as first names - even though I know a very lovely toddler Cooper! But Imo it’s better than super trendy or dated Jackson, Tyler, Mason etc - just not quite as nice sounding as Wyatt, Sawyer, Clark, Spencer or Sullivan if you want that type of name (which all have more classic literary or film associations - Thomas Wyatt, Tom Sawyer etc).

Actually I suppose there’s classic actor Gary Cooper though and your DS will definitely fit in with all the other boys at school - about a third of the toddlers I meet seem to have surnames as first names!
