I love Albert my son's middle name.
I also like Alexander. Ted/teddy and Patrick

useitorlose · 10/05/2024 11:07

Albert - Only Fools and Horses
A few classic names there - Lucas is my fave, then James.

GavinandStaceybigfan · 10/05/2024 11:10

Albert, Arthur and Bertie are too old fashioned for my liking. I like all the others although Luke and Patrick not so much.

Rubyrosie12 · 10/05/2024 11:11

I actually really love fools and horses and really like the name .

I wouldn't let that put you off OP

Bbq1 · 10/05/2024 11:12

Love Patrick especially as I have one! It's not overly common either except maybe in Ireland.

cherryassam · 10/05/2024 11:14

Apart from Bert/Bertie and Ted/Teddy, they are all very classic names which wouldn’t really make me think of anything in particular, other than classic, solid masculine names. That’s a positive, for me at least.

Bert/Bertie and Ted/Teddy are a bit more trendy to me in that they follow the trend of vintage nicknames for boys. But I like both, Bert/Bertie a touch more than Ted/Teddy, but that’s because personally I know 3 dogs called Teddy.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 10/05/2024 11:25

Really like Alexander, Louis and Luke. Quite like James, Joseph, Charlie, Lucas and Patrick. Dislike Arthur, Bertie and Ted

Mumofgirls2017 · 10/05/2024 12:10

Albert- like, quite posh, not keen on Albie though
Alexander- like, classic, clever and strong
Arthur- like, but lots around. Old man name but strong
Bert/Bertie- trendy old man name. Bit clunky.
Charlie - I really can’t stand it but it’s v popular! I just think ‘a right Charlie!’
James- nice but boring
Joseph- ok, classic
Louis- prince, ok but pronunciation errors
Lucas- dull and will date
Luke- never been a fan and becoming dated
Ted/Teddy- love, prefer as nn for Theodore/ Edward though
Patrick- like, although dated

Moreteaandchocolate · 10/05/2024 12:15

Albert - traditional, vintage, old man name, but mostly in a nice way I think

Alexander - lovely classic.

Arthur - vintage classic - I love it! It’s a shame it’s so overused for babies at the moment, but it’s rare in adults so that’s only a short term issue

Bert/Bertie - a bit comical, Bertie Wooster vibes

Charlie - a nice name, only minor disadvantage (to me) is the slightly casual, unisex feel

James - traditional classic, timeless, like it a lot

Joseph - traditional classic, timeless, like a lot

Louis - I love a royal name, so I do like this a lot, especially if you like a softer sounding name

Lucas - I like it but it feels quite trendy and less traditional than some of the others

Luke - prefer to Lucas, more of a classic feel

Ted/Teddy - love as short for Edward or Theodore. Dislike as a standalone name as it’s nice to have a more “grown up” version if wanted

Patrick - like a lot. Irish vibes. Not keen on Pat though.

sendismylife · 10/05/2024 12:22

I taught a lovely Patrick once! Always think of him.
Personally not so keen on Albert, prefer Ted to Teddy as a stand-alone name as I always try to think beyond the cute little baby to the 20, 30, 40 year old man - he will be an adult much longer than a child and putting Ted on the birth certificate doesn’t stop you using Teddy whilst he is a child.
I have to say I like all your choices. :-)

TheCultureHusks · 10/05/2024 12:24

Joseph, Louis or Alexander are the only ones I like really.

Patrick I really dislike - dated and clunky - hate Pat as a male short form, but it’s usually liked on here!

Argen · 10/05/2024 12:35

Arthur/Charlie/Louis/Lucas would be my favourite.

Albert/Bert/Bertie/Patrick I associate more with older people.

Alexander/James/Joseph/Luke are good classic names and I think would be great middles.

salamithumbs · 10/05/2024 14:40

Strong associations:
Bert - Mary Poppins
Bertie - Dirty Bertie books
Albert- Only fools and Horses
Louis- Theroux
Patrick- slightly Spongebob but I quite like it
Teddy - Teddy bear, quite childish, although I like Ted a lot

The other names are lovely, really like them all! Can't go wrong with any of them

KThnxBye · 10/05/2024 14:45

Albert - Prince Albert penis piercing.
Alexander - the Great
Arthur - Cat Food
Bert/Bertie - The King’s Speech film
Charlie - the King
James - skanky ex boyfriend
Joseph - nativity play
Louis - Looey, Loo-is or Lewis….Id avoid saying it out loud because id be sure to get it wrong.
Lucas - Star Wars
Luke - also Star Wars
Ted/Teddy - bear
Patrick - guinness

I do like a word association game. N.B. - the above probably says far more about me than it does about the names.

Ty67460 · 10/05/2024 10:41

Albert
Alexander
Arthur
Bert/Bertie
Charlie
James
Joseph
Louis
Lucas
Luke
Ted/Teddy
Patrick

I like all except for Luke/Lucas (purely because I can’t un-see(?) that it rhymes with puke and my children are very likely to suffer with motion sickness!) and Ted/Teddy (there are so many babies named Theo/Edward/Ted/Teddy!).

BirthdayRainbow · 10/05/2024 14:52

Like all except Bertie and Teddy.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/05/2024 14:56

What I think when I hear the names:

Bert/Bertie, Charlie and TedTeddy: I hope that's short for something!

Arthur: Another one?

I don't really have any strong opinions about the others. They're just normal fairly classic names.

FayCarew · 10/05/2024 14:56

Albert -Tatlock
Alexander - McQueen
Arthur - Askey, Fowler
Bert/Bertie - bassett
Charlie - Chaplin, Chan
James - Joyce
Joseph - technicolor dreamcoat
Louis - XIV
Lucas - car parts
Luke - Skywalker
Ted/Teddy - Father, Kennedy
Patrick - Duffy, Coogan

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/05/2024 18:14

I think "popular names, except, inexplicably Patrick. There should be more Patrick's it's the nicest name on the list".

shoopshoopdedoo · 11/05/2024 03:11

Albert - I also think of Prince Albert. I find it hard to say as an inclined to drop my t’s. It’s having a moment

Alexander - love, to me it’s a strong and classic name and hard to pigeonhole

Arthur - really don’t like. Sounds like “half a”. Other than Ted/Teddy, this seems to be the most popular name for little boys I meet

Bert/Bertie - twee, not great as a stand-alone name, but a nicer alternative to Albie as a shortening for Albert

Charlie - OK

James - see Alexander

Joseph - I think of Mary and Joseph. It’s OK

Louis - don’t like, always feels a bit wet to me

Lucas - mucus. Also went to school with a very odd Lucas and it’s always irrationally put me off the name

Luke - OK

Ted/Teddy - the name of most non-Arthur baby and toddler boys

Patrick - nice, I’ve only met Irish Patrick’s

TeamPolin · 11/05/2024 13:04

Alexander and Patrick are my favs...

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 11/05/2024 13:07

Albert - old man, or penis piercing
Alexander - boring. Will be Alex later
Arthur - could be cool, could be eastenders depending on the parents.
Bert/Bertie - Sesame Street
Charlie - boring
James - classic
Joseph - classic
Louis - French, but old-fashioned
Lucas - ok
Luke - classic
Ted/Teddy - classic
Patrick - Irish and kind of nice

SmallestInTheClass · 11/05/2024 13:10

Albert/Bert/Bertie and Ted/Teddy - trendy hipster name
Louis and Charlie are both lovely but depends if you want to be seen as a bit of a royalist
The rest are all great classic names

SpeakinginTongues · 11/05/2024 13:12

They’re all perfectly fine, inoffensive magnolia paint names.

Or maybe magnolia is now Dulux Timeless.

BobbyBiscuits · 11/05/2024 13:15

They're all nice, pretty safe and traditional names.
I love Alexander and Luke. I'd add Samuel/Sam into the mix. Not mad about Louis. For some reason it reminds me of a spoilt pampered person like Louis the 14th or something, lol.
