Girls names to go with already chosen middle names

Hi all, in a bit of a pickle here! In my family it’s a tradition for the grandparents to be honoured in the baby’s name. My first daughter has my grandma’s middle name and we are choosing my husband’s grandma for our next. The grandma he was closest to was called Eva Margaret, but everyone called her Peggy. So either Eva or Peggy would be the middle name (as I’m not such a fan of Margaret!). It’s just so hard to find names which go with Eva or Peggy as a middle name. I like Nina - but Nina Eva sounds bad and Nina Peggy not much better. Any suggestions of names much appreciated!

I prefer Margaret to Peggy. (Nina Margaret works fine.) How about Meg as an alternative? That might then open up your first name options.

oldnorsesaga · 04/05/2024 09:29

I would say longer names sound better with Eva and Peggy
Florence Eva
Frances Eva
Charlotte Eva
Juliet Eva
Gabrielle Eva
Helena Eva (Hel-en-a)
Eleanor Eva
Maryelle Eva

I wouldn't use short name with Peggy either, because it makes Peggy stand out more.

Jessbow · 04/05/2024 09:29

needs a longer forename to go with a short middle name

Nina Eva doesnt work
Rebecca eva would, Rebecca Peggy would
Annabel/le Eva would, Annabel/le Peggy would

Try & come up with longer forenames

If you love Nina, I personally think that’s the most important thing to get right. How about another variation on Margaret-

Nina Megan
Nina Maggie
Nina Maisie
Nina Daisy
Nina Margot
Nina Molly

Or how about Eve as a middle name? Nina Eve is quite nice?

Nicebloomers · 04/05/2024 09:39

What is your first child’s name then we can get a feel for your style.

I think Margaret is lovely. Would you be open to variations such as Daisy, Margot, Rita?

closingtime101 · 04/05/2024 09:49

My first daughter is called Rosa :)

thanks for the suggestions!

Would it count if you used a different form of Margaret? I like the previous suggestion of Nina Margot.

I know an adult Caroline Peggy! (known as Carrie)

FayCarew · 04/05/2024 11:20

Middle names don't really get used. Pick the first name then the middle name.
Nina is lovely and has the same sort of vibe as Rosa.

Nina Surname, Nina Peggy Surname, Nina P. Surname, N.P.S all look good to me.

I also like Nina Margaret.

Nicebloomers · 04/05/2024 12:19

Nina Margaret and Nina Margot are both nice.

You could have 3 names - Nina Margaret Eva?

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 04/05/2024 12:25

No one really knows middle names so just pick the first names you like. Middle names really don't matter.

GreyhoundGal1 · 04/05/2024 15:32

I agree with the poster above, better to pick a first name you love than focus on the middle names because hardly anyone knows them. Saying that I think the different form could be a good idea though, Nina Margot sounds nice. Daisy/Maisie are nicknames of Margaret so you could do Nina Daisy or Nina Maisie, Nina Eve, Nina Evelyn. They all flow a bit better to me than the double a sound.

FayCarew · 04/05/2024 16:25

It's not the great-grandmother's name unless you use 'Eva Margaret' or 'Peggy' as the middle name.
Using Margot/Daisy/Maisie etc is a bit of a cop out, and if it was my family and my mum's name, I'd feel insulted.

TerriPie · 04/05/2024 16:55

Is Eva short for Evelyn as that might be nicer than Peggy?

(I can't help but think of the Prince of Wales when I hear Peggy 🫣)

FayCarew · 04/05/2024 17:02

@TerriPie , Eva isn't a short form of Evelyn; they are different names.

I can't help but think of the Prince of Wales when I hear Peggy Why?

IKnowYouBetterThanThat · 04/05/2024 17:22

I would go with Nina Eva Margaret myself if you choose Nina.

Or what was his other grandmother called? Would Nina 'other gran's name' Eva/Peggy work?

Agree with this

Catlord · 04/05/2024 17:32

Georgina Peggy?
Nina Peggy is really nice and Nina Margaret is beautiful

I agree, pick a first name you love.

Nina Eva or really, Nina Peggy Eva doesn't go well because of all the vowels together but you could do Nina Margaret Eva, or a separate name starting and ending with a consonant such as Nina Rachel Eva to break it up if you prefered Eva

I think your choices are lovely though and would play around with those before picking something that calls to you less.

Peggy Wills - Google it if you must!

Eva can be a shortened version of Evelyn, certainly has been in my family.

The Italian Margherita is sweet

Rosa is a gorgeous name, and so is Eva Margaret. I don't like Peggy, but you could use that for a pet name.

Scirocco · 04/05/2024 20:17

Nina Margaret sounds lovely.
