Boys names that are out of the ordinary, or related to 'nature'

We don't know if we are having a girl or a boy and if we have a boy I have no idea what we are going to call him!

Help!

Our first daughter is called Daisy Harriet, and I've decided that if we have a girl the next one will be called Clover (possibly second name, Amelie) - corny I know, but it's because Daisy and Clover grow together. (she says a bit sheepishly).

I love names rooted in nature, but boys names are very hard to come across. I like the name Cyrus (no nature link there at all by the way), but apart from that I'm drawing a blank. I briefly considered the name Leif (kind of norweigian name I think, but it's bordering on sounding too hippy). I don't mind the name Seth, but it reminds me of that old bloke with a flat cap who used to be on Emmerdale.

These are the other names I've considered, but they do have to go with a very boring English surname, so some of them would sound ridiculous.

Lorne
Cassius
Cyrus
Juno
Isaac (meaning laughter)
Oren (tree)
Roden (from the valley of the reeds)
Varden (meaning green)
Merle (meaning blackbird)

Does anyone have any bright ideas?

Peregrine (falcon) Perry for short

Swampy?

You will promise not to call your dd's after the front and back ends of a pantiomime cow, won't you? Daisy is a lovely name, but not with Clover.

Welcome to MN.

Oak.
Is it Gabriel Oak in a hardy novel?

Janni · 02/04/2008 21:53

I don't care, I'm going to give you the names I always give on boys' name threads -

Jude, Christian, Gabriel, Louis, Joel

and I really liked Seeker's list of uncommon common names

HonoriaGlossop · 02/04/2008 21:59

As I seem to lately, I agree with Janni - love Jude, Gabriel, and Louis particularly and I also like Leo.

Of those others on here I do like Rowan and I really like Inigo as well...

I think Clover is a beautiful name, too, really pretty - go for it!

Lotster5 · 02/04/2008 21:59

sorry chaoskay. Everyone had been so sensible on this name thread as a whole. And I was very sensible too, early on. IN fact, I think the tone changed with the bishop at 14.05.

pointydog · 02/04/2008 22:47

and southeast is just taking the piss

chaoskay · 02/04/2008 22:56

I hadn't noticed! (ahem!)

I'm not a mad hippy, and I'm not going to call my baby Mushroom! I just want a name that is a little out of the ordinary.

Anyway, funny suggestions make me laugh so I don't give a monkeys! (or a Mungo for that matter...)

I've had a couple of good suggestions I might go ahead with, and thanks for everyone's contributions That'll do me!

Dragonbutter · 02/04/2008 23:11

(let me know if you go for one of my suggestions so i can feel all smug )
