Does the name Evie go with our surname?

We love the name Evie for our little girl but unsure if it goes with our surname ‘Leeds’. Is ‘Evie Leeds’ too much in terms of the ‘ee’ sound? I can’t work out whether I love it or hate it and need an objective view 😌

Evie Leeds is growing on me. It definitely has a punchiness to it. If you feel there are too many eees, then I think it would still be nice to keep the 2nd e sound. Maybe something like Daisy Leeds.

Thankyou all! We are thinking of hyphenating her first name as Evie-May to soften the flow with Leeds. Her NN will likely still be Evie but at least her full name flows better.. thoughts? TIA!

Evie May is a lovely name and not one I have met in real life, if you're going down that road have you thought of Evelynn as a name, it was one of my favourites and can still be Evie as a nickname but she can also choose a variety of nns from it. Not sure why everyone hates common names on mn, they are usually common because they are lovely and everyone wants to use them!

Firsttimebabymummy · 22/04/2024 11:41

I think its OK. Perhaps a longer name with nn Evie?

Boltonb · 22/04/2024 17:42

Too “eeee” sounding in my opinion. Also just think Evie has been done to death. It’s so boring

Moveoverdarlin · 22/04/2024 17:45

If you saw that name written down, it’s fine. If someone said it over the phone or in person ‘my name is Evie Leeds’ you wouldn’t have a clue what they just said. I think people would assume she said ‘Evelyn’. It’s three lots of Es.

It’s a one syllable surname so you need a longer Christian name. Like

Annabelle Leeds
Sophie Leeds
Charlotte Leeds
Sienna Leeds

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/04/2024 19:40

Or you do the best of both worlds thing - Evelyn Leeds has wonderful flow if you pronounce it like “ Ev- uh - Lynn Leeds” (the American/ currently popular in the UK pronunciation of Evelyn)- 3 syllables followed by 1 with no repeated “ee” sounds but nice, softer repeated “L” sounds.

But you do the same as in “The Mummy” films and still use nn Evie from day 1 (for the fun and memorable assonance). Then she can decide for herself when older which she wants. Win Win! - It’s what I would do with your surname tbh.

Evie Leeds sounds too cute for me.
Would a grown woman like to be called Evie Leeds?

Other ideas ..
Genevieve Leeds
Verity Leeds
Ebony Leeds
Scarlett Leeds
Elowen Leeds
Ellinor Leeds
Erica Leeds
Eliza Leeds

I really like Evie Leeds! Lovely name, and sounds kind of punchy and memorable but not silly.

I really dislike Evie-May. Or Evie-anything! Not keen on a hyphen, personally. I think it sounds like you couldn’t choose between two names!

Seas164 · 24/04/2024 19:36

Too many eeeees and sounds a bit like Evil Deeds...

It does 😳

SantasRubiksCube · 27/04/2024 21:14

I have an Evie and have yet to meet another one at my kids nursery or school so it can't be that overused but we have a longer surname and agree it's abit too many 'eee' sounds. That being said, it's your child to name as you please so if you like something, go for it.

Sunplanner · 15/11/2024 16:00

Try saying it as if giving the name over the phone, To make Evie Leeds sound clear, I have to leave a small artificial gap between Evie and Leeds. Otherwise it all runs in together and she'll be constantly asked to repeat her name.

Agree 3 syllables sounds better and also easier to give the name clearly. Evelyn Leeds, Evangeline Leeds and so on.

Heybearu · 15/11/2024 16:05

Evania Leeds sounds nice
Eva rather than Evie xx

MerryChristmasToYou · 16/11/2024 16:46

Eva Leeds is too close to Evil Deeds.

WTFMartin · 16/11/2024 16:54

Too many e’s and I’m sorry but I really dislike the Evie May. Too many xxx-Mays generally.

MerryChristmasToYou · 16/11/2024 17:25

Evie-May will be just Evie in day-to-day life and the combination seems tired.

TheaBrandt · 16/11/2024 17:28

Definitely avoid all derivative Eve names. This name should be declared officially full. It’s like bring called Sarah for our generation. At one point a third of the girls in dds class were Eve/evie/eva. I mean they are nice enough but other names are available.

If she's going to be known as Evie anyway, surely people will end up calling her Evie Leeds which means the May becomes irrelevant? I like Evie Leeds! Evie is a gorgeous name (and yes I would still like it as a grown woman!)

IggyAce · 16/11/2024 17:35

It’s a little harsh sounding, how about Evangeline.

Catandsquirrel · 16/11/2024 17:47

I wrote this out twice since the snoozing cat is preventing me leaving the sofa.

Once was my original feeling which was not quite right, too many 'ee's and it doesnt flow like Evie Lee would because of the ending of Leeds cutting it off.

Second, no actually this is quite punchy and distinctive! A bit superhero-tastic! Like a remake of Bananaman but with a female lead (I think Eric had a Leeds accent).

I think on overall reflection, useable and has a likeability but not the most elegant or flowing. Maybe Evelyn Leeds and Evie for short?

Catandsquirrel · 16/11/2024 17:54

Missed your update but I don't care for Evie May. I think -May is really overdone and doesn't add much. Nicer to go for a fuller form of Evie or if you want two names, something less well used

Evie Joan
Evie Beth
Evie Kate
Evie Faye
Evie Joyce

Rowen32 · 16/11/2024 18:01

I'd have to pick a name that doesn't start with e to really differentiate from surname..

MerryChristmasToYou · 16/11/2024 18:33

@Rowen32 , E as in Emma is OK, but I'd avoid any name with an ee sound.

Valkyrie3 · 16/11/2024 18:55

With your surname it sounds like a verb when spoken, like an athletic commentary: Evie leads the race as they go round the first bend.
Reminds me of someone I knew called Susie Bangs - I always used to think 'Does she? Like a dunny door in the wind?'
But if you like it, go for it!

SweetSakura · 16/11/2024 18:59

Call her Evelyn and then she can shorten to Evie if she wishes? And switch to Evelyn if she prefers
