Does the name Evie go with our surname?

We love the name Evie for our little girl but unsure if it goes with our surname ‘Leeds’. Is ‘Evie Leeds’ too much in terms of the ‘ee’ sound? I can’t work out whether I love it or hate it and need an objective view 😌

I like it!

wafflesmgee · 20/04/2024 15:34

I dislike it. Sorry.

Taylordreams · 20/04/2024 19:58

It looks fine

cordelia16 · 21/04/2024 10:38

I don't like it ... too many ee's esp in two very short names.

And her two names will forever run together and sound like one word (my name is similar, so speaking from experience - I dreaded saying my name out loud as a child because the person would always hear the mashed version. I usually ended up over-enunciating and looking like a Muppet).

Liv999 · 21/04/2024 11:13

Too many ees sorry OP, Eva or Ava would sound better

Strawberrysun77 · 21/04/2024 12:11

Thankyou all! We are thinking of hyphenating her first name as Evie-May to soften the flow with Leeds. Her NN will likely still be Evie but at least her full name flows better.. thoughts? TIA!

i like it, but I would temper that with a ‚are you sure you want to use the name Evie‘ question. Every 3rd girl is called either Evie, Eva, Eve or Ava.
I don’t know why but it’s like some mass hypnosis going on for the last 10-15 years. In one of my daughter‘s classes there were 75% Eva/Evies.

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 21/04/2024 12:16

Every Evie is an Evie-May. It’s so utterly overused.

It’s the equivalent of Sarah-Louise or Sarah-Jane from the 80s.

Comedycook · 21/04/2024 12:21

Every other little girl seems to be called Evie nowadays. This alone would put me off. Adding the May to it does make it flow better with your surname...but May as an add on name is also incredibly popular. This would bother me but if it doesn't bother you, then go for it. It's actually a nice enough name but I find the popularity makes it bland.

So what its "over-used"? Its a nice name and the little girl will be absolutely unique with it. I cant for the love of God understand this desire for a "unique" name. My son has a widely used, "classic" name and he is 100% unique, he would not be more unique if I called him some ridiculous made up name no one has.

Desperatelyneedabreak · 21/04/2024 12:29

No it really doesn't sound good

I think there's a middle ground between overused and unique.

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 21/04/2024 13:22

Unique doesn’t mean some strange made up name. As the pp said there a middle ground between unique and being the 12th Evie-May in your year.

Not only that but the -May is fine when you’re 5, less so when you’re 35.

TheCultureHusks · 21/04/2024 13:34

Oh sorry no no no to both the hyphen and Evie May. That’s got to be the most overdone combination. Understand what folk are saying that common isn’t bad at all but Evie May is really overused.

ABirdsEyeView · 21/04/2024 15:06

I wouldn't do Evie May. Along with Grace, it really is so common as to no longer serve its purpose of differentiating your child from the other kids with identikit names!

I'm not saying this to be bitchy - I've got a Sarah/Jane/Louise type name so was on the receiving end myself. All are lovely names but so formulaic.

Holstomorrow · 21/04/2024 15:10

Evie Leeds is super cool. Eva Leeds is also a good name, but less punchy. I don’t like Evie May at all.

No, not with May. Every girl at my kids’ schools had May as a middle or hyphenated name. Maybe Evie Rose or Evie Joy, something, anything just not May/Mae.

Fwiw I prefer Evie Leeds as it is, sounds like a character out of a book.

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 21/04/2024 16:01

Rose/Grace as is just as overused! They’re the 3 filler middle names all girls have.

How many more Evie-Mays/Lily-Rose/Olivia-Graces or Ava-Roses do there need to be…

Onand · 21/04/2024 16:04

Sounds like a pub singers stage name, too much eeee sounding.

Notreat · 21/04/2024 16:05

I think Eve , Eva, Evelyn or Yvette would he better you can still call her Evie but they all go better with your surname and the give her options if she wants a more formal sounding name

elevens24 · 21/04/2024 16:14

I think it doesn't flow right. Would be better with the last letter of first name being a consonant.

BasiliskStare · 21/04/2024 16:19

There was nan actress in the Netflix series called Moon Bloodgood - how any vowels can you get the same in one name

I wouldn't do Evie-May - I would just go with Evie Leeds , I think it sound absolutely OK - I would not worry one iota.

Purpleavocado · 21/04/2024 16:25

If you love it, go for it. Don't not chose the name you love because a bunch of random people you will never meet have an opinion. We spend 5 seconds considering the name. My married mane shares vowels with my first name and no one ever comments on it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/04/2024 23:36

Evie Leeds sounds good to me - but then I appreciate repeated sounds like assonance or alliteration in names as I think it helps make them more memorable (especially if the first name is popular so might blend in the crowd otherwise).

Eva Leeds sounds nice as well though if you want to play it safe. Eve Leeds would be a bit much somehow. Evelyn is lovely and would give nice repeated “L” sounds but can be pronounced in 3 ways which might be a pain.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/04/2024 23:43

No to Evie- May. Anything hyphenated with May or Rose feels so 2010’s - so It’s a bit dated already imo. Evie might not be timeless in itself as a given name but at least some of the older Eve’s and Evelyn’s might have been known as Evie, so it won’t be solely a young child’s/ teenagers name (even if it is very popular currently).
