Dh and I can’t find any girls name (half German)

It’s an absolute nightmare, I love the name Elodie and always have done but dh hates it. He wants something that reflects his German heritage but can’t give me any names apart from his grandmothers name, we do also have a very German surname which I’m conscious of. I’ve said I’m happy for this as a middle name however I don’t like the name myself. We’ve already decided on Finn for a boy, which we both love.
TIA

Our German exchange student (15) is called Finja, so if you like Finn this could work for a girl

I love Ines

I've always loved Insa. I also like Isolde as pp suggested.

Hoppinggreen · 14/04/2024 10:43

Some lovely suggestions here
My advice would be to pick something easy to spell. We have a German surname that has to be spelt out every time so we figured that we would give the DC a first name that everyone could spell. I did consider the German spelling for DS (K instead of C) but he would face a lifetime of mis spelling

My German nieces are Alicia, Leila and Leonie. All beautiful names.

Finn isn’t German at all though, so why do you need a German name for a girl if you can’t agree on one.

If it’s any comfort Elodie would likely end up another Ellie.

I know, dh wants something that works in German and is used over there, however all his suggestions are very German sounding for girls. I personally find them too harsh.

If it’s any use dh’s suggestions are Frieda and Paulina, neither of which I can stand. If I wasn’t clear enough in the OP dh is only half German, so our baby will only be a quarter German.

How about Melanie? Somewhat similar vibe to Elodie and Paulina.

Adelaide? I think the German version is Adelheid but it's pronounced the same so far as I'm aware.

FWIW I really like Frida (as in Frida Kahlo), my friend has a toddler Frida who goes by Freddie which I think is really sweet
