Thomasina, Thomasine, Thomeline, Thommeline, Tommeline, Tomasine, Tomasin, Tomine, Tomin

None of these? Are they all too weird?
What are your thoughts? Thanks!

You forgot Tamsin which is variation of Thomasina.

I like Thomasina the best, but not crazy keen on any besides Tamsin. I liked Thomeline just moments ago, didn't hear that till now, but I now think of tomato

UltramarineViolet · 11/04/2024 18:29

Thomasina is the only one that sounds like a proper name to me, the others sound made up

Tamsin is much nicer though

Are you naming her after a Thomas but don't like Thomasina?

Notellinganyone · 11/04/2024 18:32

I love Thomasina. She’s the protagonist of Tom Stoppard’s ‘Arcadia’, one of my favourite plays. I think Nigella Lawton’s sister was called Thomasina.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/04/2024 18:33

I know a Thomasin, I really like it.

Anabella321 · 11/04/2024 18:34

I'm not crazy on any of them tbh, though Tommie or Tammie are cute for a girl.

When I hear Thomasina I assume the parents were expecting a boy/would have preferred a boy.

flutterby1 · 11/04/2024 18:37

Maisie ( thoMAS) is that too far stretched ?

Thomas also means ' twin'

So could google names meaning twin

Slav80 · 11/04/2024 18:37

I like Tammie or Tamsin, the others make me think of a tomato but it may be just me.

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 11/04/2024 18:38

Tommeline makes me think of tambourine or trampoline or the Tombliboos.

Most of them sound made up.

TenThousandSpoons · 11/04/2024 18:39

Also not a fan of any of these, sorry.
Love Tamsin though.

JoJothegerbil · 11/04/2024 18:41

Tammy
Tasmin
Tamsin

renthead · 11/04/2024 18:41

Tamsin is the obvious choice

cariadlet · 11/04/2024 18:44

Love Tamsin.
Not keen on any of the others.

BoohooWoohoo · 11/04/2024 18:46

When I hear Thomasina I assume that the parents would expecting a boy (Thomas) but the baby was a girl so she became Thomasina. Alternatively Dad wants to pass on his name so named the baby Thomasina. (The only Junior I know is Junior Andre)
I feel the same about the name Nigella too. I assumed Nigel became Nigella rather than other associations like nigella seeds.

GoBonobo · 11/04/2024 18:46

I like Thomasina, but it will get shortened so need to decide now on your preferred pet name before someone else does it for you and you end up with her being called something you hate! Tamsin is nice as a pet (or even a full) name, as is PP suggestion of Maisie.

Needanewname42 · 11/04/2024 18:49

The most common shortening is probably Ina, but I have come across two Ina's one Thomasina the other Williamina.

There was also another Lawson sister called Horatia. Awful names, all of them.

Moreteaandchocolate · 11/04/2024 19:08

Sorry I don’t like any of them .

I love Tamsin though - a great name and not overused.

ironorchids · 11/04/2024 19:23

Tommaline is the nicest one to me, as it's the one that sounds most distinct from Thomas and not just a compromise when someone really wanted to use the name Thomas.

None of these names are established enough as names in and of themselves for me to think anything other than "the parents wanted a Thomas (ie a boy) and when they didn't get one they decided to call her Thomas anyway" when I hear them.

The risk my child might feel their parents would have preferred them to be a different gender and don't care that they weren't when naming them would make me avoid the name.

pennybournes · 11/04/2024 19:25

If you heard Thomasine, would that make you assume a boy called Thomas was expected? Or does that sound a bit different?

Caspianberg · 11/04/2024 19:26

How about Thora?

housingplanningquestion · 11/04/2024 19:28

I was thinking, 'round, it sounds round' then realised I was thinking of tummy. Which could be unfortunate if she's not slim, could make her self conscious, or a way for kids to be mean.

Cotswoldmama · 11/04/2024 19:30

I like Thomasina, I have a old lady cat called Thomasina! We shorten it to Thoma. I like Thomasine too.

Cotswoldmama · 11/04/2024 19:31

I would assume you had hoped for a boy weirdly people first said that about our cat! They assumed we thought she was a boy and had to feminise the name, we just liked the name.
