Hi,

due to have a baby girl in just under two weeks. What name do you all prefer please?

OP posts:

Billie. My child’s uncle is called Perry so I associate it with males, he does get called periwinkle a lot though, a sweet childhood nickname.

BigPretty · 08/04/2024 10:47

Billie

CJ0374 · 08/04/2024 10:52

Sorry, but I dislike both for a girl.
Billie is marginally better, because I too think of Fred and Perry go large. 😬

UltramarineViolet · 08/04/2024 10:52

Billie

Perry makes me think of Kevin the teenager's friend (played by Kathy Burke)

ODFOx · 08/04/2024 10:54

I've never heard of a female Perry, so for that reason alone, I'd go for Billie.

bingoringo4 · 08/04/2024 10:57

Billie, lovely name

Floopani · 08/04/2024 10:58

Perrie as in Little Mix?
I prefer Billie myself, but both are fine.

Worried86 · 08/04/2024 10:58

Billie would get my vote. Purely of my late 90s cultural references I’d prefer Billie Piper to Perry “Yes Mrs Patterson”.

For younger people they’d have the much nicer connection of Perrie from Little Mix! So perhaps depends how old you are?

I've never heard of a female Perry, so for that reason alone, I'd go for Billie.

One of the women in Little Mix is a Perrie.

I think the "ie" spelling makes all the difference and is nicer than the y version. Still feels like a surname rather than a first name to me though.

perrie menopause

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/04/2024 14:40

Billie

Pipecleanerrevival · 08/04/2024 14:43

Billie

i associated Perrie with menopause and Kevin the Teenager.

Watchthedoormat · 08/04/2024 14:49

Prefer Billie

Perrie reminds me of Kevin and Perry and also cheap drink

peaceinourtime · 08/04/2024 15:41

Perrie spelt that way looks like Pierre at first glance. Spell it perry if you want to use it.

RuthW · 08/04/2024 15:42

Perry is a type of water and BIlly is a goat.

I dislike both. Sorry

miniaturepixieonacid · 08/04/2024 20:03

Billie

Perrie is cute but I've never come across it for a girl or spelled like that. I'd just assume a boy called Perry if I heard it.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 08/04/2024 20:06

Billie

TerriPie · 08/04/2024 20:07

Not keen on either but really dislike Perrie/Perry. Makes me think of Kevin The Teenager's buddy and the pear equivalent of cider popular in 1980's.

CJ0374 · 08/04/2024 20:13

Little Mix

Well you learn something new every day. I always thought they were called Little Minx! 😬

Tinty · 08/04/2024 20:14

If you want a boy name for a girl, how about Jamie or Drew.

midlifeattheoasis · 08/04/2024 20:16

I'm sorry but they are both awful.

muddyford · 08/04/2024 20:17

Both horrible.

LazJaz · 08/04/2024 20:21

Sorry but Perrie reminds me of a Peri Bottle

much as I do love Billie Piper, I don’t love Billie as a name.it sounds like a NN to me from Belinda or Willomena etc etc
I’m from the school of not using NN as given first names because who is to say that the child will find affinity with the NN version as they grow up? The full version comes with flexibility. I appreciate that this is quite an old school perspective.

Im particular, I don’t love “ie” for a girl as they are lovely when little, but when you grow up you might feel you’ve outgrown that diminutive sound. I spend a lot it my time being patronised because I’m a woman who looks quite young for her age. A childish name would not help with this!

If you like unisex names have you considered some of the more classic unisex names?
I like Frances NN Frank/Frankie
Other nice ones (in my opinion) include Hillary NN Hillie, Evelyn NN Evie, Adrian (Adrienne) NN Adie/Ria
etc.

good luck with your choice and forthcoming baby!
