I have 3 children and I love their names, and now I look back at what I almost called them and I don't think I'd of still liked some of the names now; anyone the same?

my first a little boy would have been either:

Ollie- still love it.

Ronnie- he'd have suited it. And love it still!

Herbie- this was actually my favourite at the time and now I can't quite believe it. Not my taste anymore

if he was a girl he'd have been Polly or Fluer

both I still like, but wouldn't use now.

my daughter came next, and for her we loved

Elora- still love it

Elowen- it's beautiful but wouldn't have suited her I don't think

Edie- I'll never get over my partner hating this name I think it's beautiful 💔

and boys we had Finn, Ozzy and Arlo as front runners

my third and final baby had her name before she was even conceived, but we did toy with the idea of

Izzie- which I like but I'm glad we didn't pick it

and Honey- which I will always love i think and would have suited her she has beautiful golden hair

if she was a boy I wanted Hugo which I stand by, lovely IMO

I went through a phase of thinking I wanted to call DS1 Fox while I was pregnant with him. Must have been the hormones! I'm not even an X Files fan. Still makes me chuckle.

My DD was Megan until I saw her. She just wasn't the Meggie I'd imagined. The name I gave her really suits her.
DS I wanted Levi. Ex DH vetoed it last minute.

Jemima. Still a bit wistful for it, and it would have suited dd, but I was an early 1970s Playschool watcher and couldn't quite get rid of the rag doll associations in my head. Also loved Clara and Jonquil - dd was horrified when I told her about the last one!

CrikeyMajikey · 15/03/2024 21:16

Dilys.

gohomeroger1 · 15/03/2024 21:22

DS was nearly Maximillian
DD was nearly Clarissa

MaloneMeadow · 15/03/2024 21:36

Heidi!

Elspethelf · 15/03/2024 21:42

My son was almost Ibrahim. If he were a girl, he would have been Zeena.

My daughter’s name was set pretty immediately. If she were a boy, she would have been Ibrahim.

Ibrahim was a contender both times, but if we had another today, it would be totally off the table.

DemBonesDemBones · 15/03/2024 21:52

Almost Hugo, almost Aurelien and we knew the others from the start and didn't change our minds!

LeMoax · 15/03/2024 21:55

Just had a DS but if were a DD would have been called Annabella

Pjmasksonrepeat · 15/03/2024 21:58

For DS we also considered Matthew or Zachary.

If he'd been a DD we liked Zoe, Rose and Eleanor.

PippetyPoppetyPie · 15/03/2024 22:01

DS1 Reuben/Isla
DS2 Monty/Thea
DD1 Indie/Otis

DS was almost Iarla or Naoise. If he’d been a girl, he was going to be Medbh or Lir.

Is this satire or are you being dead serious? If you’re serious, how on earth do you pronounce any of those names??

Horizonhopper2021 · 15/03/2024 22:04

I love Hamish!

Isis

Nudgethatjudge · 15/03/2024 22:08

Mallory for a girl but my surname starts with an M and it sounded like a singer on a cruise ship.

Hezekiah after my Uncle but DP was "no way, baby brain talking"

Still love them...

kizzywizz · 15/03/2024 22:12

If my son had been a girl he would have been called Kayleigh, you can guess the year he was born if you know the song.

Are you always so incredibly ignorant when it comes to other cultures? They’re traditional Irish names.

Mumofgirls2017 · 15/03/2024 22:36

My 5yo could have been Clara or ivy. Love both those names, she is definitely not a Clara but possibly an ivy, suits her name way better.

3yo could have been Skye. Instead her middle name. It would have worked but again prefer what we chose

baby was possibly Athena, Penelope or ostara

so glad she has her name not any of those!! Can’t imagine it.

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 15/03/2024 22:45

DD1 Brent ( In my defence Iwas young 😂)
DD2 Willow or Rosie
DS1 Oliver

AmaryllisChorus · 15/03/2024 22:51

Eliza and Georgia if they were girls. I don't much like Eliza any more.

For boys, DH liked Robert and Casper. I didn't. I loved Izaak, Ezra, Elijah, Raphael, Gabriel - lots of biblical names. All strong nos from him.

Edited

And if I’ve never heard of those names before, how on earth would you expect me to know they’re traditional Irish names? Do you also expect me to know traditional Scottish and Welsh names?

I guess you can call me ignorant for never coming across these names seeing as I’ve never been to these places. Nor have I met people with such names. If you’re willing to educate me and explain how to pronounce those names, it would be much appreciated. If not, then have a great night!

VERYBRUISEDPEAR · 15/03/2024 23:05

Laura - still really like this name

Sophie - nice name but wouldn't suit my daughter at all

Hardbackwriter · 15/03/2024 23:08

It was only as a middle name but... I came really close to letting DH persuade me to give DS2 Raedwald as a middle name. Then I came to my senses!

ShadowBeam · 15/03/2024 23:10

My little boy was called Jack initially and then the pregnancy hormones took over and I wanted to call him Luther - I didn't Grin

I only had one name for DD and that's what she's called but If she was a boy I wanted to call her James Alexander.

VivaLaResistance · 15/03/2024 23:11

DS would have been Millie or Violet if he'd had been a girl. He was almost Isaac.

DD would have been Max or Lennox had she been a boy. I loved Eden, Nova or again Millie but all were vetoed.
