I have 3 children and I love their names, and now I look back at what I almost called them and I don't think I'd of still liked some of the names now; anyone the same?

my first a little boy would have been either:

Ollie- still love it.

Ronnie- he'd have suited it. And love it still!

Herbie- this was actually my favourite at the time and now I can't quite believe it. Not my taste anymore

if he was a girl he'd have been Polly or Fluer

both I still like, but wouldn't use now.

my daughter came next, and for her we loved

Elora- still love it

Elowen- it's beautiful but wouldn't have suited her I don't think

Edie- I'll never get over my partner hating this name I think it's beautiful 💔

and boys we had Finn, Ozzy and Arlo as front runners

my third and final baby had her name before she was even conceived, but we did toy with the idea of

Izzie- which I like but I'm glad we didn't pick it

and Honey- which I will always love i think and would have suited her she has beautiful golden hair

if she was a boy I wanted Hugo which I stand by, lovely IMO

James
Sebastian
Marcus
Juliet
Maria
Elizabeth

These were our only serious contenders when we had our babies (other than their actual names). I still love all of them, but don't want another 6 babies!

Wenttomowameadow · 15/03/2024 18:38

Locryn

piscofrisco · 15/03/2024 18:47

I wanted to call dd2 violet or daphne. She loves violet and hates daphne. But she hates what she was actually called too!

Hibernatalie · 15/03/2024 18:51

We have similar taste OP as Herbie and Edie were both on our lists - still love them.

Dd would have been Felix and DS would have been Margot.

Caffeineneedednow · 15/03/2024 18:53

Àine if we had a girl but had boys so never used it.

Had that one picked from the first 12 week scan took us alot longer to settle on a boys one

Talapia · 15/03/2024 18:53

I had all boys but of they were girls they would have been
Madeleine
Elisabeth
Rachel
Kate

Or
Madeleine
Meredith
Camilla
Kate

This was pre the royals Camilla and Kate! 😂

My husband wanted Madison, which was a massive no from me !

Ada Grace for DD but DH went off it and although I liked it I wasn't in love with it so I didn't mind looking for another name. I had a brief period when she was a week or two old of thinking that I should have called her Margot instead of the name that we had agreed on, but we'd already told everyone her name by then and the feeling subsided after about a week. DS - I liked Sebastian whilst expecting but DH kept singing Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid whenever I mentioned it. I also liked Elliott but DH wasn't keen. I really struggled to choose to be honest as nothing ever felt quite right- it took a while for me to get used to the name that we did eventually choose but its him now and I like it. Had our second been a girl DH had his heart set on the name Lorelei which I'm not keen on - turned out to be boy so we didn't have to have that awkward discussion (phew!) DH & DD wanted to call DS Charles/Charlie but (a) it just made me think of King (then Prince) Charles/I associated it with being an old person and (b) it was DH's grandfather's name. This wouldn't have been a problem but we were already using his (recently and unexpectedly deceased) father's name as a middle name and he'd have my husband's surname so having all 3 names from his side felt a bit much - like I'd done all the heavy lifting and not been acknowledged or didn't matter somehow - not sure it makes any sense I don't know why I felt like that about it probably silly really, but I said no & we went with something else.

My mum was going to call me Sabrina but someone told her there was a goddess called Sabrina with an unsavoury association of some kind so she changed her mind!

HashBrownandBeans · 15/03/2024 19:17

My eldest son would’ve been Rowena had he been a girl. When he was born I kept wanting to call him Rhys which hadn’t even been a consideration. Good job I ignored that and went with something else as a year later, I met my now-ex husband who already had a son called Reece. 🙈
My DD would’ve been Corbin or Ciaran had she been a boy.
My DS would’ve been Josephine had he been a girl.

Fridgefreezermagnets · 15/03/2024 19:33

William, George, or noah for a boys.
Nancy, Megan or Emily for girls.
The only one I think I wouldn't be happy with now is Megan. Although mine are all teenagers now so personality shows through.

violetcuriosity · 15/03/2024 19:44

Ida, Violet for DD1

Emilia, Eden for DD2

weebarra · 15/03/2024 19:50

DS1 would have been Megan
DS2 was definitely going to be Angus but DH and I looked at each other when he was born and both said the same name - had been discounted previously
DD was nearly Mairi and if she'd been a boy would have been Innes.

coldcallerbaiter · 15/03/2024 19:53

I had 2 boys and a girl. I nearly called them. Gabriel, Raphael, Elena I was talked out of all of them.

Slippersareindeedsexy · 15/03/2024 19:56

I was close to naming my daughter Roisin. DH said he knew too many dickheads with that name. Shame. Love that name.

RuthW · 15/03/2024 19:58

Phoebe

Still like it. It was more popular at the time than what we chose but her name is now more popular

Waitingfordoggo · 15/03/2024 20:03

DD (18) could have been Ruth (DH didn’t like it), Jessica (didn’t work with our surname) or Abigail. I still like all of those actually, but DD doesn’t like them so it’s just as well she didn’t get any of them!

For DS (15) I wanted Arlo but DH didn’t agree and as it’s become more popular since, it’s probably just as well. He could also have been Laurence/Lawrence or Louis but I wasn’t 100% sure, and although I still like both names, I think we made the right decision for us in choosing something else.

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 15/03/2024 20:07

DD was always going to be her name, never found anything else that we both liked.

DS was going to be Vincent right up until he was born and then he came out and he just didn’t look like one at all!

sanityisamyth · 15/03/2024 20:08

Had a DS but he would have been Charlotte Elizabeth if he'd been a girl

ememem84 · 15/03/2024 20:12

I wanted to call ds either Thorin or Winter. Ds vetoed both.

dd I wanted to call Martha, or pixie.

JosieB68 · 15/03/2024 20:13

DD was nearly
Millie or Lilly and if she was a boy she’d have been Leo.

Chanxex · 15/03/2024 20:20

DS1 was going to be Oscar until he was born but I felt it was too pretentious and try hard so that went by the way

i wanted to call DD Ariella which is still my favourite name. I also liked Zoe (an ex girlfriend) Eva (an ex girlfriend) Gabriella (ex girlfriend) honestly, there’s no chance on this earth he had that many exes

DS2. He was going to be Rudy for about week but again, I felt I’d be too embarrassed to say it. I also wanted to call him Teddy but it’s not a serious name for an adult and I dont believe in giving long names as alternatives and was never going to go for Edward or Theodore. He ended up with a nice name which was pretty much a process of elimination. I think I should have called him Alex though, he’s defintely an Alex. Would have totally suited DD too. She would make a great Alex

SleepingStandingUp · 15/03/2024 20:21

Ds s nearly Noah but it was SO popular at the time. As it is, we know none. It would suit him but I like his actual name. Girl name was Ariana

Twins, girl names were Lilyana and Ariella/Arabella. Not keen on Arabella so much now. Boys I wanted Gideon and Torbien. They have uncommon names and I do prefer them now mostly.

Katrinawaves · 15/03/2024 20:29

Mine were going to be Matthew, Alice and William. But weren’t 😂

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/03/2024 20:36

DS was nearly Isambard

I wanted Isis for DD. If she'd been a bit she would have been. Frederick.

DH talked me out of Isambard and Isis. I suppose he was right. I may have been less keen on Isis if we'd actually already had an Isambard.

greglet · 15/03/2024 20:56

DS was nearly Torsten or Stellan. I still love both!

HahaBooHiss · 15/03/2024 21:03

Adelaide & Charlie
