Hi,

Expecting our first baby girl. We love the name Tia but DH is worried it's not "very classy".

Our surname is Swan so a little worried Tia Swan is a bit short?

What are your thoughts on Tia, what do you associate the name with?

No, she does have an older brother but he has more letters in his name

Thanks. You're not the mum of one I know then.

@Clearinguptheclutter , Lea is pronounced Lee.

JustBloodyWellSayNo · 15/03/2024 12:21

I only know of one Tia - and she's a cat 😻

DuchessOfSausage · 15/03/2024 12:34

I know 2. One's an adult and the other is a 🐈

UngratefulOldCabbage · 15/03/2024 20:46

Tiya or Tiah as an alternative spelling?

NotThisAgainSeriously · 15/03/2024 21:02

Gia*
Lia
Mia*
Nia*
Pia*
Sia*
Tia
Zia*

I personally know girls/women with all the *names. From all different backgrounds, social groups and ethnicities. I’ve never met a Tia but know someone who uses this as a nickname. I like the name Tia, Lia not so much. Use whichever you like! No name exists that everyone likes.

DuchessOfSausage · 15/03/2024 21:07

Tiya or Tiah as an alternative spelling?
Makes it look trashy and most people will spell it Tia anyway

theduchessofspork · 16/03/2024 21:29

It’s not

Thanks In Advance
Tia Maria
Tia Sharp and Tia Rigg (poor kids, shocker families)

If you must than maybe short for Tamara or Talitha or something

I don’t think Lia or Pia are much better - they all sound a bit stripperish /can’t be arsed to think of a proper name

DuchessOfSausage · 16/03/2024 21:37

I know an adult Pia. Never crossed my mind that the name was 'stripperish'.
The Lia i know is Welsh, and I assumed they didn't use the Leah spelling because it's pronounced more like Laya/Leia in Welsh, and they wanted it said as Lee-a

** those are approximate pronunciations only. I don't want to start a discussion on it.

DiscoBeat · 16/03/2024 21:49

I wouldn't because of the medical aspect but it's pretty otherwise!

Libsi · 17/03/2024 11:48

Not a fan of Tia but I know the loveliest teenage Lia. Her mum is welsh I think but they are definitely a "classy" family, mums a physiotherapist and dad a consultant.
She really suits the name so I'd go for Lia over Tia.

Anametolove · 18/03/2024 12:04

Swan is a gorgeous last name and you are spoilt for choice for a first name that goes well with it.
Tia seems like an incomplete name to me, Lia seems made up and makes me think of Lia Thomas.
I would pick Thea as another poster suggested, or Thalia/Talia. Thelma is super cute too.
If you like really short names, Liv is very pretty, so is Liana, or Louise nn Lou.

DuchessOfSausage · 20/03/2024 19:45

You've probably decided against Tia, but it struck me that it sounds like the Welsh for 'You and'. Tia V sounds like 'Ti a fi' which is 'You and me'. Smile

PickledScrump · 20/03/2024 23:05

I know one Tia, her full name is Tianna

HAF1119 · 20/03/2024 23:21

Lia - I have a friend who named hers this, but due to pronunciations in the first few weeks always sounding like 'liar' or 'lay-ah' she changed it to Leah.

Lea you'll get Lee

Tia is fine but when a lot of people look at it they will think 'thanks in advance'

Mia?

GetWhatYouWant · 20/03/2024 23:27

Tia is definitely not middle/upper class and the suggested variations of Teah, Tiah are positively chavvy.

User6761 · 21/03/2024 07:48

I knew a lovely adult Tiana (tee-a-na). Tiana Swan would work. You're lucky to have a great surname - it goes with lots of names.

oneinamillieon · 21/03/2024 20:48

theresa?

GlobalCitz · 21/03/2024 20:54

It would be a pain to visit any country in South America, Portugal or Spain.
