I am looking for a unisex name for an adult. So far on the list is

Frankie
Robin
Mattie
Jamie

These are all versions of current names I can use but struggling to pick one.

Also any other suggestions. Apart from Rowan can’t use that .

Those are all male names. There is no such thing as a unisex name except possibly Frances/is.

Jamie is definitely not just a male name. In fact it's arguably more female as male Jamies tend to be short for James whereas female Jamies are just Jamie. It's not popular at the moment for girls but I went to school with 3 of them in the 90s.

I think most of the shortened names and traditional names that can be unisex have been said already.

There's also nature/hippy names:
River, Storm, Phoenix, Ash, Ocean, Blue

Place names:
Paris, Rio, Dakota

American/Gaelic names:
Addison, Aubrey, Bailey, Brynn, Colby, Cameron, Cassidy, Dylan, Eden, Emerson, Erin, Fallon, Genesis, Harley, Hadley, Jordan, Kennedy, Morgan, Mackenzie, Parker, Quinn, Riley, Spencer, Sutton, Taylor

and names which sound the same but have different spellings and/or origins for different sexes:
Noah/Noa
Robin/Robyn
Billy/Billie
Jesse/Jessie
Rhys/Reese

@miniaturepixieonacid

90-94% of Jamies are consistently boys....

@miniaturepixieonacid , Babies called Jamie in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com), Babies called James in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com). The statistics say otherwise.

@KirstenBlest "The statistics say otherwise."

They don't. Pick a year. Look at the figures. For example (picked at random) in 2010 there were 60 girls to 1526 boys. In 2021 there were 23 girls to 342 boys.

CurlewKate She was disagreeing with me, not you.

Fair enough re the statistics. But still, Jamie as a female name is always just Jamie. However unpopular it may have become in recent decades it's a standalone female name. The majority of male Jamies are James, even if the ones who are just Jamie still outnumber girl Jamies by a lot.

Ola (male name in my Scandinavian home country, but I think that it's a female name in many other countries/cultures).

KimDealsBass · 12/10/2024 21:53

Alex
Sam
Ashley
Cameron
Robin (still more of a male name in the UK, I think, but quite popular as a female name across the pond)
