Can I use a similar name?

Jackson and Jack as cousins? There will be a 8 year age gap and live an hour away from each other, oh and different surnames.

It has very sentimental meaning to me

Yes I think that’s fine 👍

ColleenDonaghy · 24/02/2024 18:57

Personally there's no way I'd consider a name so similar (the same!) to such a close relative. Jack is a variation of John so you could use John or Seán.

CocoPlum · 24/02/2024 18:59

I probably wouldn't, if they share a grandparent, that's confusing. Could Jack not be a middle name? It's so popular right now!

I think it's fine. Both my sister and brother named a son Thomas after our father. It has never been an issue

HemlockSoup · 24/02/2024 19:09

Would be absolutely fine in my family.

Aviee · 24/02/2024 19:11

I wouldn't

I wouldn't, but that's because I'm not that keen on surnames as first names. I know quite a few Jacks so wouldn't use Jack either but it's not a family name.

thunderandsunshine01 · 24/02/2024 20:25

I wouldn’t personally. I think if you ran it past Jackson’s parents and they were cool about it then it’s ok.

MrsO3 · 24/02/2024 20:35

Go for it

DisforDarkChocolate · 24/02/2024 20:41

Perfect fine.

ElizabethCage · 24/02/2024 20:43

That’s fine, I have 4 cousins called Tom 😂

SkaneTos · 24/02/2024 22:57

Not a problem at all.
In my family there are cousins born the same year. One has the name Chris and the other has the name Christopher. They live in the same area. No problem.

Stickyricepudding · 25/02/2024 07:05

Could you have it as a middle name instead as it is too close for my liking so David Jack/son Surname?
