Is ‘birdie’ okay for a girl? I’m not too sure on the name extended e.g. birdette but I love it for a baby girl!

My mother thinks it’s a cruel name and that it could subject her to bullying?

Please help!!!!

I don't like it but I think Bridget is a strong and cool name. Especially when my mother says it in an Irish accent.

But then I like Bridie, Bridget, Kizzy, Hester, Rosalie and Betsy (I think it's my Romany blood - although I draw the line at Esmerelda (a great aunt!))

My great aunt had a fun friend called Birdie who rode a motor bike and had a wall mirror collection so it seems perfectly normal and lovely to me. My Birdie went to boarding school, was clever, told funny stories, had a beautiful garden and went to the horse races often. Was it anick name? I don't know.

Everyone in Ireland aged 40 and over has an aunt Bridie. My mother had two.

You could name her Bernadette, nn Birdie.

Birdie makes me think of a character The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell, who was disturbingly sadistic and came to a bad end. Also of beady eyes and beaks, but I'm not a particular bird fan.
I guess at a push could be a nickname for Bridgett. Also agree would work on a small delicate child but not if they turned out a bit more lumpen!

I quite like Bridie - though it does make me think of the pasty.

Knowing the way my kids went through school and work, all I can imagine is a lifetime of nicknames of Tweet tweet, Puddie Tat, Twitter, cheep cheep, etc
