What's your take on the name Maria?

I go back and forth on this. I love it and want to use it, then I lose interest.

Bit dull in my opinion and doesn’t seem like a child’s name.

Spanish family or The sound of Music ( showing my age)

I think Marianne is chicer. It’s not awful by any stretch of the imagination though. A bit Catholic perhaps.

Too religious for my liking unless you’re Spanish in which case no opinion.

My favourite name. West Side Story, the Sound of Music. You can sing to her all day! 😆

It's nice enough. Must surely be in the top 5 most commonly used girls' names in the world.

I love it! It’s easy to spell and pronounce, it’s not overused nowadays, it works internationally, plus you’ve got some good songs about girls named Maria 😆

I’d seriously consider using it for a girl myself but my DM’s name is Marie and I don’t want to get into politics of naming after family members 😬

Sorry but it's a bit dull. Mariella is nicer IMO

One of the most popular names (or variations of) in the world.

For me it has Catholic/religious connotations, because it's the name of Jesus' mother and while we call her Mary much of the world calls her Maria.

Love it - my mums middle name is Maria and my middle name is Marie.

I think it's probably one of the last few "older" names that isn't vastly overused in UK.

It's #1 worldwide.

To be fair I have an Elizabeth so I am definitely in the boring / traditional / associated with religion / old (!) camp.

I was put off it for a long time because I was at school with a particularly horrible one.

My friend has just had a baby Maria and it absolutely suits her, I don't hate it as much as I did!

When we chose our DC’s names, we went for ones that suited both children and adults. Everyone is entitled to their own methods of choosing names.

Maria is lovely - a pretty, simple, underused classic.

I prefer Marie MAH-ri and Mary MAIR-ri

Maria Muh-REE-uh and Maree Muh-REE don't sound as nice to my ear.
