Twin boys: Arthur & George, Arthur & William or George & William

We are torn between 3 names;
-Arthur
-George
-William

(The one that doesn't make the cut will end up as a middle name, with the other twin's middle name being James)

Surname begins with a H.
Twins due to arrive in the next few weeks

If we go with William, he'll probably be called Will when he gets older, but I really don't like the thought of calling him Will as a baby.

Essentially it's down to;

-Arthur James & George William

OR
-Arthur George & William James /
-Arthur James & William George

OR

-George Arthur & William James

For those who are going to say they're really common names etc etc. I'm aware they're popular (particularly Arthur and George). Arthur isn't that popular where we live though compared to where it stands in the UK name lists. Having a popular name doesn't bother us since we like those names.

Thanks!

Arthur James might end up being AJ but AJ and Will are both good "teenage" names (in my opinion!).

All good combos! I would personally go for George and Arthur to avoid having 2 royal names. Congratulations on your twins, having twins is hectic but such fun (mine are 3!).

DiscoBeat · 08/02/2024 22:13

I'd go for James William and Arthur George. Def not William and George unless you want people to think you just pick royal names.

theduchessofspork · 08/02/2024 23:34

Arthur George and William James

I like George and William too but it’s very current royal

BestZebbie · 08/02/2024 23:44

Not William because he will be King while they are still reasonably young. I'd be tempted to drop George for the same reason, but that is less urgent - Edward is another possible early C20th "King" name, if that is your theme?

niteklub · 09/02/2024 00:07

Arthur and George, just because they were my Grandad's names.
I do believe they are the middle names of King Charles- so topical too!

Thanks! I do like Edward but it's my brothers name. Harry and Elliot were also on my list (Elliot being less along the 'royal theme') but I couldnt stand the alliteration of Harry with our surname (begins with H) and the husband dislikes Elliot.

George and William, great names and I don't immediately jump to the royals. Like some PPs I just cannot get on board with Arthur.

timoteigirl · 09/02/2024 06:09

I don't like Arthur so have to go with William and George. Some people may think you are a royalist.

BoleynMemories13 · 09/02/2024 06:41

I would avoid George and William for twins as it screams royal fanatics as a combination to me (even if you're not).

I think Arthur and George compliment each other better as both less likely to be shortened.

PrawnDumplings · 09/02/2024 06:43

I'd go James & George

With William & Arthur for middles.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 09/02/2024 06:46

I like George Arthur and William James the best. People might assume you’re huge royalists though.

I’d avoid William and George as first names because of the royals (they are our next 2 Kings)

I prefer Arthur and George

This - with bells on.

Love the combo of Arthur and George - perfect.

DisforDarkChocolate · 09/02/2024 07:01

I love William (especially with Henry as a middle name).
Arthur is my second favourite.

Sandysandwich · 09/02/2024 07:15

Arthur George and William James

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 09/02/2024 07:31

I wouldn't want to use William or George as first names as they will be the same as the king and future king.

So I'd go with James William and Arthur George.

Me too

agree with this

Morewineplease10 · 09/02/2024 07:53

Arthur and George.

Definitely less keen on William.

faustus5 · 09/02/2024 07:54

I wouldn't do Arthur and George because of the book.

IShouldNotBeSurprised · 09/02/2024 08:05

I said Arthur and William, it's a family thing for us.

My Great-grandfather and one of his brothers were Artur and Wilhelm.
My Grandfather and one of his brothers were Arthur and William.
My Dad and his brother were/are Arthur and William.
My brothers are/were Arthur and William.
My brother (Arthur) has sons Arthur and William.

My faves ..
Arthur George and William James
George Arthur and William James
They are all common names so the royal connection is nothing except respectful to historical names.

Others ..
Alistair George and Charles William

fightingthedogforadonut · 09/02/2024 08:18

Arthur and William.

Really dislike George, just has a really yukky sound.

Anjea · 09/02/2024 08:54

I wouldn't go will and George, it's too currently royal.

Arthur is nice buys it's Arfa round these parts.

Have you discounted Albert?

cakeandteajustforme · 09/02/2024 10:40

My sons middle names are Arthur James; I think it flows really well.
I think George and Arthur work best together.
I also quite like thinking of two cheeky toddlers Georgie and Artie.
