Just trying to get some more inspiration as we love names from mythology.

It's for a girl, but you can say what it would be for a boy too, if you'd like.

It can be unusual, we need a first and a middle name, so the unusual ones would probably go on the middle name list.

@JigglyOhara my thought exactly...Phaedra.
Equally unsettling as a backstory Robert Pirsig used the name Phaedrus for the name of the protagonists deranged alter ego prior to his mental breakdown. But... I like the sound of the name.

homezookeeper · 06/02/2024 01:06

Megara

Pia is a different Latin name but is pretty.

It’s also an Indian name meaning ‘beloved’ in Hindi.

Gremlinssofa · 06/02/2024 02:20

I went to school with a girl called Phaedra and have always those it is a beautiful name.

PersephonePomegranate · 06/02/2024 04:33

Err...

JuneSoon · 06/02/2024 05:02

Proserpina (Latin name for Persephone). I love the Martha Wainwright song of that name but wouldn't burden a child with it.

Please don’t call your human child any of these names

Many of these are commonly used names in the UK. Phoebe is in the top 50

Athena, Thalia, Iris, Gaia, Rhea Helen Cassandra for example are names that would not raise eyebrows. I see Hera suggested all the time.

Personally I love many of these names and feel it's a shame we don't use them more.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 06/02/2024 07:50

I love Antigone, and Tigger would actually be a cute nickname if she turns out to be a bit of a live wire!

I do know a baby Eris but TBH I didn’t know it was from Greek mythology.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 06/02/2024 07:57

Hippolytes / Hippolyta - she was an Amazon queen so very fitting for a girl.

It's also a French name. So a bit out there, but your lo could grow into this name.

SammyScrounge · 06/02/2024 14:12

Aphrodite
Cassandra

TremendousTurnip · 06/02/2024 14:15

I know a Persephone in real life, everyone calls her Percy

SammyScrounge · 06/02/2024 16:37

Little Hippolyta would be known as Hippo!

Lassiata · 06/02/2024 16:46

Ismene, Ariadne, Penelope, Daphne - but as others say, as names, not because of their stories, which aren't all great.

@Stillnormal many of these names have been classics for generations; you seem quite ignorant.

CurrentHun · 07/02/2024 00:15

Thanks I didn’t know that about Pia having a lovely meaning in Hindi.

Grumpetsky · 07/02/2024 00:37

Gosh, so many! But Prometheus, Aristophanes, Antigone, Iphigenia at the moment.

SilverSimca · 07/02/2024 00:44

Psyche, although I may be alone in that.

You are not alone.
