Would you think that Ellie could be nn of Evangeline if we introduce her this way from day 1?

If you think about it broken down as Evang - eli - ne .... ? Ellie sound is somewhere there, right?

Or is it too much of a stretch?

Could Evangeline become Lena as a shorter version?

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 27/01/2024 22:37

Vannie?! Dear god no.

It could be but there are a billion Ellies

I don't think it's reasonable to call your daughter Evangeline unless you genuinely like the full name or at least its obvious nicknames. If you don't, call her Ellie. Or Eleanor.

I would absolutely hate as an adult woman to be called Evangeline, and while I could suck that up if my parents had (in their sweet misguided way) loved the idea of a baby Evangeline, it would piss me off to be given an arcane mouthful of a name for any other reason.

Why not use Evangeline as a middle name?

Eva, Eve, Ellie are ubiquitous but fine. Regarding jelly, smelly, many names have potential for teasing, unfortunately teasing is and will likely occur at some point in every child's life.

Every now and then a mum will post on here, 6+ months after naming their LO, about how they're considering changing the LOs perfectly normal name, that the worry is keeping them up at night etc because of some association or rhyme that's suddenly occurred to them.

I think the best thing to do is trust your instincts.

Overthinking will not solve your problems, it will only create new ones.

I'm an Ellie and in my 31 years have never been called Smelly Ellie or Ellie-phant 😂

Crispynoodle · 28/01/2024 00:17

There are so many Ellies in my class I get them all mixed up! Having said that my own daughter's middle name is Ellen after her gran which can be shortened to Ellie

Of course Ellie could be used as a nickname for Evangeline; nicknames are often something of a stretch from the original name. I know an Evangeline who has been Evie since she was born 20 years ago and I know others who go by their full name. I also know a few Angels of a similar age although I have no idea if their name is an abbreviation.

There are lots of 'vowely' names amongst my DCs' friends (from age 13 to 22ish) e.g. Amelia, Olivia, Eva, Ava, Emily, Isabella, Isadora, Ivy, Elsie and the like. Personally, Ellie is another vowely name that is similar.

What about Evana for short?

fatphalange · 28/01/2024 02:56

The two Evangelines I've known were known as Evan

I know an Angeline who sometimes is Angie
