Ellie?

Would you think that Ellie could be nn of Evangeline if we introduce her this way from day 1?

If you think about it broken down as Evang - eli - ne .... ? Ellie sound is somewhere there, right?

Or is it too much of a stretch?

Tbf I love Jelly Belly as a baby nickname. My own baby has a similar one that came up organically, but hopefully won't follow to school 😂

ODFOx · 27/01/2024 20:31

Evangeline is beautiful, and as a family name it is lovely. Are you set on Ellie or is it just because you don't want Evie (or variations) ? If the latter perhaps consider Lina (Lena) or even Lennie as a cute diminutive? Angie works and is most unusual at the moment!

ODFOx · 27/01/2024 20:32

...or Angel while she's tiny?

Terrrence · 27/01/2024 20:35

You can choose any nickname you like. It doesn't even have to have a connection with her actual name. I would call her Evangeline with Ellie for short if I wanted. In my kids' school Ellie is very popular, more so than the other names you mentioned, but names tend to cluster by area so Ellie could be rare where you are.

Terrrence · 27/01/2024 20:37

Lina, Lennie and Angel as mentioned by another pp are just lovely!

VoleChomper · 27/01/2024 20:41

Ellies are ten a penny.

Lina sounds much fresher.

Euridicefortuna · 27/01/2024 20:43

Do it ,my neighbour is Ellie:didn't know she was Elizabeth until 3 years ago ,she's 40. Her family always called her Ellie so we followed suit.

Schools have preferred names so she can always be Ellie if you so wish.

It's not even that far a stretch especially considering; Polly and Molly are nicknames for Mary .Tessa ,Buffy and Lisa are for Elizabeth.

bigfatcarrotcruncher · 27/01/2024 20:52

If popularity is ur concern Ellie is popular!

bigfatcarrotcruncher · 27/01/2024 20:52

@VoleChomper it sounds like Luna. Another vowel heavy name. L and El names are everywhere

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 27/01/2024 20:56

Evangeline is so beautiful and Ellie is so meh!

Also every Ellie I have known has been called Smelly Ellie at some point.

bigfatcarrotcruncher · 27/01/2024 20:58

Yeah why can't you just call her Evangeline

bigfatcarrotcruncher · 27/01/2024 20:58

@WhenWereYouUnderMe Ellie jelly smelly jelly

Breadmakers · 27/01/2024 21:18

Would you all prefer Evelina?

OP posts:
Terrrence · 27/01/2024 21:25

Evangeline is beautiful. I would call her that.

Onelife2024 · 27/01/2024 21:27

Breadmakers · 27/01/2024 21:18

Would you all prefer Evelina?

Yes I prefer Evelina. Evangeline makes me think of evangelist.

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 27/01/2024 21:27

I would go with Evangeline and let her nickname naturally evolve - always find it strange on here when people want to determine a nickname before the child is born.

My kids gets called all sorts of nonsense: sausage face gets used often, for example. I'd never have sat down and tried to pre-determine that!

CardinalCat · 27/01/2024 21:39

I know a Lena whose full name is Evangeline. I think it's beautiful. Ellie would be a completely separate name as it's not really a nn of Evangeline. There is nothing to stop you registering her formal name and then calling her whatever you like, of course!

GrandDuchessOfBillericay · 27/01/2024 21:50

I prefer Evangeline to Eveline. Makes me think of the hospital.

Breadmakers · 27/01/2024 21:58

Oh yes, the hospital association! I had forgotten of it...

We don’t want any of the Evie, Eve, Eva etc. short names as there are millions out there and it’s the inevitable shortening.

there are a lot more Ellie’s about the place. What about a middle name beginning D so E.D (Edie) Vannie, Lena, could it be a middle name and you choose a different first name?

Duckingfun · 27/01/2024 22:03

Or you could use Ever?
if you’re happy to use Eveline instead of Evangeline is the name as important as you suggested in your first post? Plus Eveline is still going to be Eve/Evie etc

savoycabbage · 27/01/2024 22:05

I was in a year one class on Friday with

Ella
Ella
Ellie
Eva
Ava
Eli
Eddie

I was demented.

And, there was an Evangeline and she was the only one whose name I could remember.

ohididntrealise · 27/01/2024 22:07

Zoomerang · 27/01/2024 20:18

Ellie is nice, but an odd shortening and very popular.

How about Lina ( Lee-na) as a nn?

That's a good one.

Or Genie is very sweet, but also a bit of a stretch.

Chichimcgee · 27/01/2024 22:11

I know a bajillion few Ellie’s and every single one has been Smelly Ellie or Ellie-phant at some point

? She never saw her birth certificate?
Never had a passport or a driving licence?
Sounds a bit strange not to know your registered name at 37....
