Is Lorna ready for a comeback?

I think it's kind of cute.

Each to their own. It's not like it was ever massively popular in order to 'come back' really. I feel the similar Laura is more likely to come back big time in the next 20 years or so, as people start to honour relatives with that name (which was much more popular at the time).

I quite like Laurel, which has a similar feel. Lorna sounds quite dull to me. I'm definitely not getting a cute vibe but, like I said, each to their own.

I have known two, both beautiful and hardworking. I think it's lovely.

TomatoSandwiches · 29/12/2023 12:35

I like it and would welcome hearing it more often.

LucyInTheParkWithDragons · 29/12/2023 12:45

Imnot keen on the ‘or’ sound. Much prefer Lauren.

muddyford · 29/12/2023 12:56

I like it and have never met one I didn't like.

TheDonsDingleberries · 29/12/2023 13:07

I love it and have only met a few in my lifetime, the youngest being about 6 or 7 now.

I think it's one of those names that falls in the sweet spot of being well known but not particularly common, in England anyway.

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 13:09

I think it's nice but don't like it said with a rolled R

It's of Scottish origin that's why it's not a common name in England. That said, I know of a couple of colleagues at work that are called Lorna.

I'm a Lorna, but quite often than not I get called Laura. This doesn't bother me in the slightest as I am so used to it. 🙄 I think because they don't come across it very often.

Other names I have been called (mainly in emails) are Luna, Lisa and Lona. 🤣

Purplecatshopaholic · 29/12/2023 13:24

Lorna is Scottish so quite a few up here in Scotland - nice name - not that common and seems to cover all age groups (I know a few).

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 14:52

It's not scottish. It was created by the writer of Lorna Doone. It's more popular in Scotland.

MaloneMeadow · 29/12/2023 16:44

Awful - so dreary and boring

oldnorsesaga · 29/12/2023 18:50

I like Lorna, but would choose something else like Louise.

Brexile · 29/12/2023 18:57

This might just be me, but I think of it as a bitchy name like Elaine or Fiona.

MalcolmTuckersDisdainfulSneer · 29/12/2023 19:04

I'm not a fan. It's still a bit dusty to me! I do love Laura though

BlowingAway · 29/12/2023 19:04

I like it a lot. I met a Morna too, also nice.

eddiemairswife · 29/12/2023 19:04

She was a spiteful girl at school. Her uncle had a sweet shop and she had a plenteous supply of bubble gum. Late 1940s.

KohlaParasaurus · 29/12/2023 19:08

It's a pleasant enough name, but the association with the politician Lorna Slater would put me off using it just now.

User6761 · 29/12/2023 19:43

I know 3 Lornas, in their 30s and 40s. I like it - and much prefer it to Laura or Lauren.

35965a · 29/12/2023 19:43

Just makes me think of lorne sausage

Delassalle · 29/12/2023 21:40

I've only known one Lorna and she was a massive cry baby and on a school holiday to Wales circa 1975 she cried her eyes out on the first evening and could not be consoled and her parents had to drive from Essex the next day to bring her home which in those days was a very long journey!

Onelife2024 · 29/12/2023 21:58

I like Lorna - no negative associations to me and everyone knows it, can spell it, but it’s not too popular

lavenderjump · 30/12/2023 10:57

I like it!

OopsieeDaisy · 30/12/2023 23:26

I really like Lorna!
I’ve never actually met any but it’s a nice, well known name that would cover all ages.

lovelyjubbly888 · 30/12/2023 23:27

Nope! Middle aged woman name, sorry.

JupiterSymphony · 30/12/2023 23:34

Louise is an awful name... I don't know why people keep using it as a middle name, it's like a name for people who have been given a lobotomy and can't think of anything else.
