Is Lorna ready for a comeback?

I think it's kind of cute.

I have known two lovely Lornas but a bit unsure about the name as it always reminds me of the word 'folorn'.

Louise is an awful name... I don't know why people keep using it as a middle name, it's like a name for people who have been given a lobotomy and can't think of anything else.

Nothing wrong with Louise - what is wrong with you?!!!

Lorna is probably due a comeback and I have a Laura in her 20s and I love her name!!!

Using Louise, Jane or Marie as a middle name is inane (my middle name is Jane btw) it's pathetic. It's like nobody has enough brain to think of a middle name.

I think you're approximately 40 years behind here...

It's all Grace, May, Rose these days! But even then I'm not sure you sound the full shilling yourself for all your talk of lobotomies Confused. Yikes

Anabella321 · 31/12/2023 00:30

I love it. My mother wanted to call me Lorna but my father's family insisted on an Irish name so now I have a name that makes MN froth at the mouth.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 31/12/2023 00:32

I like Lorna.

Katypp · 31/12/2023 00:52

I am finding reactions to this interesting. It's clear that 'middle-aged woman's names' will be the next genre of popular names but clearly people aren't ready for them yet.
I always wonder if people who describe names such as Doris and Betty as 'gorgeous' and 'cute' would have said the same 25 years ago. I suspect not but that's fashion for you.

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2023 01:06

Lorna is lovely.

GreenClock · 31/12/2023 01:12

It’s inoffensive

Catandsquirrel · 31/12/2023 01:18

I like it in a Scottish or west country accent with a rhotic /r/ but not so much otherwise

user1477391263 · 31/12/2023 01:22

I really like it. It's a "known" name, but has never been common enough for it to be strongly dated to any particular era. I'd like to see a little Lorna.

mathanxiety · 31/12/2023 01:44

No if it's going to be pronounced Lawna.

Yes if you have a rhotic accent.

MerryChristmasToYou · 31/12/2023 09:54

No if it's going to be pronounced Lorr-na.

No if you have a rhotic accent.

Trieditall · 31/12/2023 09:57

Not keen myself. It’s not a young person’s name.

RuthW · 31/12/2023 11:29

No. I think it's a bit ugly.

And Betty, Ivy, Eva and Nora are young people's names??
Have you not heard of fashion?

shinygoldstar · 03/01/2024 13:00

It is a lovely name. The very best person I know is called Lorna!

NachosAndCheese · 03/01/2024 13:09

Never been a fan, prefer Laura.

peaceinourtime · 03/01/2024 15:13

Lorna’s a nice name. I’ve only known one who would be in her fifties now.

Westwindworries · 03/01/2024 19:59

I like it, with a rhotic accent.

I know a few, all in their 50s, but I don't think it's common enough to be a "middle aged name" in the way that more popular names of the 1960s are.

Go for it!

salamithumbs · 03/01/2024 23:11

I like it whether the r is pronounced or not! It sounds strong but pretty and not too common
