My Lee.

It’s a Breton name?

Kokeshi123 · 29/12/2023 01:31

"May lee"

Sounds like someone who wanted a Mila/Mia/Lia/Ellie type name and has tried and failed to make it more interesting.

LauderSyme · 29/12/2023 01:36

May Lee

uclpp · 29/12/2023 01:36

I wouldn’t
I’d avoid saying it due to the ambiguity - until I’d heard one of the parents or the child say it.

WilloTheWispy · 29/12/2023 01:38

May-eh-lee

Puffalicious · 29/12/2023 01:40

Damnyoureyesman · 28/12/2023 23:45

male-y

This. Exactly like the Scottish Eilidh (ale-y) with an added M.

Restrelief · 29/12/2023 01:43

I’ve never come across this name before May lee would be my first guess. but I’d certainly change if it is wrong.

if that pronunciation is correct my first guess at a spelling would be May Lee. (Depending on actual surname that might end up thinking first name May/Mae and a double barrel surname.)

Inmyownlittlecorner · 29/12/2023 01:50

May-Lee. I know a Mailli, pronounced like that. It's a Cornish name according to her parents.

ConsuelaHammock · 29/12/2023 01:56

No idea. I’d ask the parent or child how they say it!

penjil · 29/12/2023 02:01

You'll always get people who will pronounce it

Mar-elly.

😬

NortieTortie · 29/12/2023 02:05

Male-ee

Close to may-lee, but with emphasis on the male part

squidgybits · 29/12/2023 02:12

nope , I hope the kid changes their name as soon as able

MolkosTeenageAngst · 29/12/2023 00:03

Mayley, to rhyme with Hayley or Kayleigh.

Exactly this

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 13:04

Maëlie - Mah-el-lee, there is nothing to give a My-uh-lee sound
Maelie - Maily

UsingChangeofName · 29/12/2023 13:44

May-Lee (to rhyme with Hayley), except I'd do it with a question mark in my voice, to ask if I'd got it right.

nameXname · 29/12/2023 18:12

As previous poster says, it should have a diaresis (two dots above adjoinng vowels) and a 'y' ending (Maelys)). It's a fairly popular French name of Breton origins. Pronounced approx Mah-ul-lees.

MalcolmTuckersDisdainfulSneer · 29/12/2023 18:21

I can see how it could be either, but I think I'd assume May-Lee

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 18:35

Maëlys. Pronounced approx Mah-el-lees (not Mah-uh-lees)

AuntieStella · 29/12/2023 18:42

With no diacritic, I’d assume Mae-lie, so would (unless instructed otherwise ) say may-lee. I think may-lie is also possible but that sounds like a warning in truthfulness and would hope no one would saddle a child with that. I wouldn’t pronounce Mae as anything other than may

If with diacritic Maëlie, then I’s assume something like may-ullie (where the middle syllable is swallowed a bit and the ‘e’ (like ellie) becomes a schwa (or near schwa))

Barbara

Commonsense22 · 05/09/2024 17:43

Ma-eh-lee.

BasketOfBubbles · 05/09/2024 17:43

I'd pronounce it like the vacuum cleaner,...

ChickenandaCanofCoke · 05/09/2024 17:44

Maley

Commonsense22 · 06/09/2024 08:44

I'm surprised at all the suggestions! It's a French name, Ma-eh-lee

AuxArmesCitoyens · 06/09/2024 10:12

etmoiandme · 29/12/2023 00:27

This is how I would pronounce it.

Me too. it's not random letters, it's just not an English name.
