Baby Girl #3? Philippa, India, and…?

Juniperjonie · 28/12/2023 05:00

We have two girls already, Philippa, nn Pippa, and India. Found out baby number three is also a girl! …but not sure on a name yet, want something with a similar feel but can’t decide.

Ideas currently include:
Theodora (nn Dora)
Susanna (nn Susan)
Hallie
Clara
Beatrice
Eleanore (nn Nell/Nellie)
Winifred (nn Winnie? Freddy?)
Josephine (nn Jo)
Ramona
Darcy
Mary
Florence (don’t really like the nn Flo though)
Felicity
Lowena
Peggy
Iona
Shirley
Libby (would probably have to be a nn for Elizabeth though which I’m not sure on..)
Etta (Could this be a nn for Edith?)
Sybil
Helena
Ruth

They’re all kind of all over the place

Estella

Francesca (Chesca)
Jennifer (unusual these days!)

Jemima
Vivienne
Giovanna
Antonia
Serena
Raphaela (Raffy, Raffa)

Out of your list, I think Susannah, Eleanor or Beatrice go best. You’ve got lots of lovely names on your list already, my suggestions would be Clementine or Elspeth. I know someone with a daughter Florence, her nn is Florrie.

Juniperjonie · 28/12/2023 05:21

I do like Agnes although I don’t think you hear it much these days, Francesca is also a good alternative to the Florence/Felicity theme. Haven’t thought of Calista, that’s a nice one.

Also quite like Jemima, Antonia, and Vivienne!

Elspeth is really lovely too, and love the idea of Florrie as a nn for Florence as I dont love the typical “Fliss” it tends to get. Also meant to put an h at the end of Susannah as they’ve said! Oops! Really been into that one recently… been watching some old films.

Iona is my fav and would have been our pick if we hadn't had two DSs! Also you might like Flora? I know a very lovely Flora IRL.

From your list, I love Clara, Mary and Ruth. I like Felicity, Libby, Etta and Helena too but I'm not sure if they go so well with the other two.

wizzler · 28/12/2023 06:45

Lucinda and Jennifer both have a similar sound ( or at least they do in my Yorkshire accent)

personally I'd go for Madeleine or Genevieve or Harriet ( Maddie, Jenny, Hattie)

Mintygoodness · 28/12/2023 08:30

Peggy and Shirley don't sound like they would be sibs to Pippa and India. (The only Shirley I know is a great aunt whose sisters are Joyce and Barbara). Not knocking them but they just don't seem like they would flow or are the same vibe as their sister's names.

kezzykicks · 28/12/2023 08:35

My votes are for Theodora, Susanna (although love nn Susie) and Helena, I think all your names would be quite different then but have the symmetry of all having 3 syllables and ending with an a. Favourite is Theodora, Dora is super cute.

Eliza

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/12/2023 09:06

I like Clara, felicity, Beatrice and Helena with your others.

evangeline
harriet
annabelle
eloise
margot
zara
beatrix
rosalie
georgina
vivienne
cordelia
flora
henrietta
jemima
rosanna
juliet
romilly
cassandra

Whiskeypowers · 28/12/2023 10:38

I like Juno with those two names

theduchessofspork · 28/12/2023 10:38

I like
Clara
Mary
Felicity (Lissa)
Theodora (Dora or Dorey)
Josephine (Jojo)
Beatrice (Bea)
Helena (Nell or Lena)

also like Susannah but not Susan - Sukey? Zanna?

How about
Cassia (Cassie)
Caroline (Callie)
Adela
Estella
Verity
Ianthe
Serena
Saskia
Sabrina
Juliet (Etta)
Harriet / Henrietta (Hallie or Etta)
Flora
Oona
Esther (Tess/a)
Fernanda
Allegra

I would strike -

Hallie - OK as a nn for Harriet
Eleanore (nn Nell/Nellie) - overdone - would go for Helena
Winifred (nn Winnie? Freddy?) - OK
Ramona - I like it, but it’s odd on a little girl
Darcy - no it’s like Tracey
Florence (don’t really like the nn Flo though) - it’s a bit twee
Lowena - it’s OK
Peggy - ok as a nn for Marguerite
Iona - lovely but too close to India
Shirley - Nooooo
Libby (would probably have to be a nn for Elizabeth though which I’m not sure on..) - you could use Elisheba / Elisheva which is the Hebrew for Elizabeth and rather splendid
Etta (Could this be a nn for Edith?) - more a nn for Harriet or Juliet
Sybil - it’s OK
Ruth - no it’s so ugly!

Theoldwoman · 28/12/2023 10:45

I love Beatrice!

Otherwise:

Philippa, India and Sienna
Philippa! India and Jemima
Philippa, India and Freya
Philippa, India and Sascha
Philippa, India and Saskia

MerryChristmasToYou · 28/12/2023 11:51

Theodora (nn Dora) - Theo and Theodora too popular. Isadora or Dorothy better
Susanna (nn Susan) - she'll be Sue or Susie
Hallie - doesn't seem like a name
Clara - I don't like it
Beatrice - like
Eleanore (nn Nell/Nellie) - Eleanor is the usual spelling. The extra e makes it look like Eeyore. Nellie is awful
Winifred (nn Winnie? Freddy?) - Winifred/Winnie is nice. Freddy isa boy's name
Josephine (nn Jo) - fine
Ramona - ok
Darcy - I don't like it
Mary - like it a lot
Florence (don’t really like the nn Flo though) - fine
Felicity - a bit long
Lowena - Lowenna is nice
Peggy - like
Iona - depends on surname, it's a bit long and doesn't shorten
Shirley- a bit different
Libby (would probably have to be a nn for Elizabeth though which I’m not sure on..) - a bit plain
Etta (Could this be a nn for Edith?) -Ate a ....? Not keen on either of them
Sybil - Fawlty Towers
Helena - prefer Helen
Ruth - fine

Juniperjonie · 28/12/2023 18:14

Thank you everyone! Beatrice, Susannah, Mary, Helena, Theodora, Felicity and Clara seem to be favorites (and they were some of my favs so that’s a good start 😉)

Also saw Harriet/Henrietta a lot which I love, and saw the idea that Etta could be nn for it rather than stand alone. Nell as a nn for Helena is also good idea.

Josephine is nice and really uncommon. Jojo is a good nickname that will go well with India and Pippa. They’re both very posh so you need something else posh. I bet your India gets Indie (if not yet then she will!) so Indie, Pippa and Jojo. Perfect.

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 13:18

They're not posh.

They're not posh.

From your perspective…..
