Lottie or Dottie

Which one do you prefer? I don't want to use the traditional longer names Charlotte or Dorothy. Be kind, baby here (nearly 2 weeks old, she needs a name!) thanks.

Use the longer names on the official document and just use the shorter names day to day. At least they don't have to spend their life saying "oh no it's just Lottie"

Oranesandlemons · 22/12/2023 23:43

I love them both but especially like Lottie. It’s beautiful & was one of my favourites for both my daughters too. Congratulations!

Beeswood · 22/12/2023 23:44

I prefer Lottie. Congratulations!

FrostieBoabby · 22/12/2023 23:46

Charlotte on birth certificate, nice classy name for the future in case she becomes a Judge, Professor, Prime Minister etc but Lottie to everyone else.

SkaneTos · 22/12/2023 23:46

I like both Lottie and Dottie! Really cute names.

Babyroobs · 22/12/2023 23:47

I love Lottie.

Sugarfree23 · 22/12/2023 23:47

Lottie

Dottie is far too close to dotey or dopey as in daft,

Congratulations x

MolkosTeenageAngst · 22/12/2023 23:47

They’re both cute but I think Lottie works better as a stand alone name.

Lifeinlists · 22/12/2023 23:49

I don't think she'll thank you for Dottie with no alternative name when she's an adult. Not that I like Dorothy if I'm honest.
Charlotte, known as Lottie, is a thousand times better.

Catlord · 22/12/2023 23:55

If you're insistent on not using the longer version then Lottie.

Dorothy is a fabulous name with short versions to choose from but I wouldn't thank my parents for having stuck me with Dottie and no option of a more sophisticated version. There are a lot of women out there it really wouldn't suit.

HorseyMum346 · 23/12/2023 00:17

Lottie is lovely, Dottie is awful!

MacLaine · 23/12/2023 00:20

Charlotte known as Lottie is the better of the two.

Alloveragain3 · 23/12/2023 00:22

Lottie by a country mile for me

LittleBearPad · 23/12/2023 00:24

MacLaine · 23/12/2023 00:20

Charlotte known as Lottie is the better of the two.

Agreed

IGotItFromSanta · 23/12/2023 00:24

Definitely Lottie.

Dottie is slang for someone who has gone slightly strange (I know that’s spelled differently, but it sounds the same)

Olika · 23/12/2023 00:28

Congratulations! I prefer Lottie.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 23/12/2023 00:29

Charlotte nn Lottie.

I have a name which is often used as a shortened version for a longer name. It is annoying having to constantly correct people - no not xxxx. Xx is my full name.

DramaAlpaca · 23/12/2023 00:32

I prefer the longer versions on the birth certificate, but if you insist not then Lottie.

elcee23 · 23/12/2023 00:32

Love Lottie!

resm · 23/12/2023 00:37

Lottie is lovely. Dottie just reminds me of Dot Cotton from EastEnders, but obviously won’t be a relevant reference to her peers. Congratulations on your baby girl btw!

Gotosleepnow2023 · 23/12/2023 00:41

Charlotte and Lottie definately, Dottie sounds like Dotty which sounds like loop the loo, which sounds like away with the fairies...sorry 😉

Plus, Lottie might be a tom-boy and then she can become a Charlie which is lovely too.

Congratulations! 🎉

Sandysandwich · 23/12/2023 00:43

Lottie by miles, it's lovely

signaturecollection · 23/12/2023 00:43

I like Lottie. Though I notice the comments about how she can never be a judge etc with a name like Lottie have started already Xmas Confused For the record, there is absolutely nothing to stop anyone named Lottie, Xanthia, Yooneek or Barbie from becoming a judge, prime minister etc etc. It really has bugger all to do with the name. If someone with as dull a name as Boris (and as shit as his job as Boris) can achieve prime minister then there is absolutely no limit.

OP Lottie is absolutely lovely! I do like Dottie too and it's definitely less frequently used but I would definitely put Dorothy or Dorothea on her birth certificate so that she has some options when she's older. My son is Daniel but only ever known as Danny since his first day born! But he has the choice of Daniel or Dan if he ever wants to use them. Congratulations on your baby girl!

signaturecollection · 23/12/2023 00:44

To be clear! I'm not comparing either of your name suggestions to Yooneek 😄 Just added it for hyperbole!

Katypp · 23/12/2023 00:49

Since you ask, I think they are both silly names.
When will this trend of naming people as if they will be under two for ever end?
OP, would you like to be called either name as an adult?
