Baby name conundrum!

Baby 3 was a boy and he would have always been Vinny but a close friend used it and I’d rather not use the name now, she would rather that too!

so we are down to Claude Quentin or Quentin Claude and the family name will be Bonfrer! French heritage but we are British.

what are your thoughts on Claude as the first name or Quentin as a first name? I like both but have doubts about both. Namely, is Quentin too posh? We are normal income people. My other children are Jasper and Connie.

I also like Raphael/Raphy but my husband thinks it’s too Spanish to use.

I have until tomorrow am to choose between Claude or Quentin!

any feedback welcomed! Or other names but probably will be veeto’d by my other half as he wants me to decide asap!

What did you go for OP?

MumThree3 · 07/12/2023 17:07

I couldn’t do it this am. Felt so undecided 😬I will go for Quentin or Clement I think. The Clohd pronunciation of Claude in UK and the typically French Claude stereotype has made me rethink the name

Ahh I love Claude for a boy.

purpledahlias · 07/12/2023 17:14

I vote Quentin in that case. It's a great name and goes well with Jasper and Connie!

Scruffington · 07/12/2023 17:18

Go with Clement.

Jasper, Connie, and Clem sound good together.

purpledahlias · 07/12/2023 17:30

Interestingly, there were more babies called Quentin (23) last year than Clement (17).

MumThree3 · 07/12/2023 19:10

Thanks! Where do you find that info?

Of the two Quentin. I've always thought of Claude as a female name though I know its a male name.

@MumThree3 here's the ONS data on baby names, the latest one being 2021. The list of all names given is under number 6

In that case, definitely Quentin. Unless I could interest you in a Lucian?

MumThree3 · 08/12/2023 10:57

That’s my son Jasper’s middle name. I do love it!

I know a Clement, goes by Clem suits it and works better than you think

purpledahlias · 11/12/2023 17:03

What did you choose, op?

MumThree3 · 11/12/2023 20:08

Going to go with Quentin. I considered Felix too. Can’t register him until a week today as there aren’t any apps but pretty sure we will stick on Quentin.

Excellent choice!

Jasper, Connie and Quentin sounds really nice together.

Congrats on his birth Smile

MumThree3 · 21/12/2023 15:57

Vincent or Quentin?

Really stuck between these two names. Avoided Vincent due to a friend using it but keep reverting to it so less afraid to use it now and wonder if I’ll regret using Quentin. Reluctances are that I like the nicknames less and wonder if it’s on the posher side.

Raphael is much much nicer

littlemousebigcheese · 21/12/2023 16:29

Quentin sounds very wet and limp to me. Like the cool sporty kid would never be called Quentin. The cool nerdy kid would never be called Quentin. The arty aloof kid would never be called Quentin. The kid who eats egg sandwiches and always has a runny nose would be called Quentin

KirstenBlest · 21/12/2023 16:32

Now that the choice is Vincent or Quentin, I don't really like either of them.
Vincent is ok but Vince is not, and Vinnie a bit thuggish

Clement is better

redlavender · 21/12/2023 17:06

Definitely Quentin. Classic, timeless and Q is a cool initial!

redlavender · 21/12/2023 17:06

I don't like Vince at all

pipilongstocks · 21/12/2023 17:09

Quentin is cooler than Vince/Vincent. Reminds me of the lovely Quentin Blake.

purpledahlias · 21/12/2023 17:15

@littlemousebigcheese interesting associations you have there Hmm our Quentin isn't particularly sporty and more techy/nerdy but pretty cool 😎. And he dislikes egg sandwiches! But it was funny to read your descriptions!

ThePoshUns · 21/12/2023 17:19

I prefer Claude as a first name.
Quentin sounds like the offspring of Jacob Rees Mogg

SparklyMularky · 21/12/2023 18:50

Quentin is like tarquín. I really wouldn't use it. It's not a cool name at all.

Also French heritage. I'd go for Nicholas and call him Nico like Nicholas Anelka.
