I heard this name recently and thought it was pretty. What does everyone think?

She'll be called Tacky forever. Sorry but I don't like it.

All2Well · 02/12/2023 13:55

@DrMirandaBailey@GoodVibesHere

Takara is indeed a Killer Whale in Blackfish, originally from SeaWorld San Diego and moved around - she was regularly inseminated using Tilikum's semen, causing a lot of worry over how dangerous their offspring might be,
especially as Takara was quite dominant herself & involved in some incidents. I've "met" her when I was a kid, she's got a birth mark and is very vocal which makes her stand out.

@kokomo92 Sorry, I don't like it at all, unless it reflects your own cultural background.

fairygalaxy · 02/12/2023 13:55

Fine if you like it

Mercurial123 · 02/12/2023 13:56

It made me laugh it's awful.

I know a woman called Tiakora. She is Māori. Never heard Takara.

Same (similar) my friend is from NZ and called Tineke. Don't think it would work outside NZ/pacific islands.

wineoclock90 · 02/12/2023 14:11

Awful

HoHoHoliday · 02/12/2023 14:15

Tara or Kara would be nice. I find Takara awkward unless you have a heritage that fits it.

TheNinthLock · 02/12/2023 14:18

My first thought was car - The all new Ford Takara….

user50and · 02/12/2023 14:20

Mochu 🤣🤣🤣
That was Tarka the Otter!
Made me snort laugh and spit my tea out

SaturdayGiraffe · 02/12/2023 14:28

It’s a Japanese name. If you’re not Japanese it’s unusual to choose one.

fairygalaxy · 02/12/2023 15:13

There's some rude people on this thread. It's a name. Get over it.

muddyford · 02/12/2023 15:17

Sounds like an airport.

peaceinourtime · 02/12/2023 15:41

Nope

Trez1510 · 02/12/2023 15:50

On the upside, I guess if you're someone who is concerned about friends etc. copying your child's name, you will zero worries in that regard unless you/they are of Japanese heritage.

I'm another one who immediately thought of the otter. Sorry. 😕

Ofa · 02/12/2023 15:50

Never heard of it but I think it’s great.

Sounds African to me.

I wouldn’t mess with a girl called Takara, I think she could rule the playground!

Longdarkcloud · 02/12/2023 15:59

Wasn’t there a TV series about a Japanese ninja called Takaro many years ago? I used to love it

FlutteryButterfly · 02/12/2023 16:00

Tara, yes!

Kara/ Cara yes!

Takara 👎

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 02/12/2023 16:01

Would it be Takara Kobayashi or Takara Sidebottom?

Makes a difference.

TheNinthLock · 02/12/2023 14:18

My first thought was car - The all new Ford Takara….

You're right that it's a car, but Mazda not Ford. We had a Mazda 5 Takara once.

viques · 02/12/2023 16:22

Should be OK, unless your surname is Otter…..

Daisybuttercup12345 · 02/12/2023 17:25

Awful. Trying too hard to be unique.

gotomomo · 02/12/2023 17:28

It's a Japanese name meaning precious object. Not particularly mainstream but there's a toy company called it.

If you google it says it's particularly associated with the Ryūkyū Islands.

yirka · 05/01/2024 17:25

I haven't heard of it before. I'd assume it's a cultural name.

SunnyFog · 05/01/2024 21:06

Pretty sound.
