Ok, I posted a couple of weeks ago with our shortlist of 3. Comments were very helpful. In fact we've now dropped Martha from the list as the views were either that it was becoming very popular or that it wasn't very nice.
...Anyway, we still like Frances but we're also considering Rosalind and Joscelyn (unsure how best to spell it as I've been told this is the masculine spelling) Ruth is still somewhere in the pot too!

So,
1)Francis
2)Rosalind
3)Joscelyn
and poss 4)Ruth

All comments welcome.

Frances or Ruth.

hana · 12/03/2008 20:11

love Martha!

oops, not on your short list

Frances (think Francis is the boys spelling)

don't like any of the others

constancereader · 12/03/2008 20:12

I love Frances.

Tinker · 12/03/2008 20:12

Frances. Really like this name.

lottymadbird · 12/03/2008 20:12

isnt 1) the masculine spelling?

have you thought about the way people will shorten them...

  1. fran, franny
  2. Roz, lindy
  3. josh
  4. er... ruth.

I like them all but 3 is my favourite in the nickname and 4 my favourite overall.

moondog · 12/03/2008 20:13

Frances=dull
Rosalind=nice
Jocelyn=nice
Ruth=deathly dull (I knew a big fat bloater called Ruth. She was an aul' bitch too so am maybe a teensybit biased.)

janeite · 12/03/2008 20:13

Martha and Ruth. I don't like the others, sorry but if I had to, I'd go for Frances.

cushioncover · 12/03/2008 20:14

Yes,I know it's Frances, it was just a typo.

Frizbe · 12/03/2008 20:14

All the Ros's I meet are a bit sappy so not that.

Francis is good.

Ruth's I've met tend to be solid and fiesty

Joscelyn just reminds me of little miss....

Frizbe · 12/03/2008 20:15

or even Frances!

Tinker · 12/03/2008 20:15

I do agree that Ruth is a bit dull. I like Fran as a shortened form

redadmiral · 12/03/2008 20:16

Frances - one of my mum's friends was Frances - known as Frankie, which I love too.

Tinker · 12/03/2008 20:16

Of Frances, obviously. Not of Ruth

LaDiDaDi · 12/03/2008 20:16

Rosalind or Ruth for me. JUst not keen on Frances really and Joscelyn equals fat posh girl for me.

cushioncover · 12/03/2008 20:16

Lotty, I like Fran, Ros or Joss as shortened versions.

Moondog, is Jocelyn (without the s) the feminine spelling then? Different sources have given conflicting advice on this one.

turquoise · 12/03/2008 20:16

I only like Frances.

LOL @ Moondog. I know a really droney and self obsessed bloater called Rosalind.

lottymadbird · 12/03/2008 20:17

Frances was a mean bully at school so am biased !

...and always reminds me of leonard rossiter (must be the frances de la tour connection!)

moondog · 12/03/2008 20:17

Dunno Cushion.

i don't hold with rules though.
Call your kids what you like!

Hulababy · 12/03/2008 20:19

Erm - from those 4, poss Frances?

I love Martha though so much more!

cushioncover · 12/03/2008 20:19

Lol at my names all being fat, posh bloaters!

OP posts:
redadmiral · 12/03/2008 20:19

Think I prefer Rose or Rosie to Rosalind...

cushioncover · 12/03/2008 20:21

Ohhhhh, don't start me thinking about Martha again. I've always loved it and don't know why I didn't use it with DD!

OP posts:
PestoMonster · 12/03/2008 20:21

I prefer Elspeth

BibiThree · 12/03/2008 20:22

RUTH! Love Ruth.
