Thoughts on Jacqueline for a baby girl?
It's my mum's name and I also think it sounds very pretty. Middle name would be rose.

I don't know any young girls called Jacqueline though so does it come across as old ladyish? Tried searching on Mumsnet for Jacqueline threads but they're all about the author Jacqueline Wilson which is unusual because it seems there's at least one thread for every other name. So does this mean no one is naming their daughter Jacqueline?

Anyway of modernising it- Elina or something? We’ve done that with our daughter.

Horrorqueen81 · 24/11/2023 14:39

Jacqueline Jossa is the first one I thought of although I was a bit surprised it was her name when I first heard as I associate it with older people. There’s another young girl that was in Eastenders whose name is Barbara and that surprised me for the same reason.

I almost called my daughter jacquelyn Rose, my cousin was called jacquleyn and my gran was rose and they both passed while I was pregnant. We ended up using jacquleyn as a middle name and my brother used rose for his daughter who was born at the same time . I would use it though, it's a lovely name and not often heard . I prefer it with the lyn at the end rather than line though

It's fine but I'm not sure I would give one of my children a parents name as a first name. I would give it as a middle name as a nice link to their Granny and give the child something that is theirs?

I think Jaclyn would be a more modern seen take on the name 💕

A bit Charlie's Angels

LinaLouLa · 24/11/2023 16:38

I'm a Jacqueline and I don't think it's old ladyish. Names like Elsie/Ivy have made a come back......it's Jacqueline's turn 😊😉

SnowdaySewday · 24/11/2023 16:53

Nice name - familiar but not common.

If your baby will have the same surname as your mum, then I would avoid using it as the first name or call her a different version day to day.

Even if this is not the case, people who know both your mum and your baby may refer to your DD as Little Jacqueline/Jackie to distinguish her from your mum. Your future teen might not thank you for that.

Neverpostagain · 24/11/2023 16:55

It's a fabulous name, well due a revival!

BungleandGeorge · 24/11/2023 17:15

No it’s not old lady, it’s more middle aged. I think it’s nice to use your mums name but it also may be a bit confusing? Would you use a short version to distinguish? Does your mum like her name?

Nigglenaggle · 24/11/2023 17:19

Jacqueline was 17.... Can't hear the name without singing.. Other than that think it's nice, as long as you also like Jackie.

scottishGirl · 24/11/2023 17:21

I know of three Jacquelines, all in their early to mid 30s. None use a nickname e.g Jackie. They are all known as Jacqueline. I personally haven't met anyone younger than that with the name.

Agree with previous posters that its a name of a generation that hasn't really had comebacks yet. I would agree more of a middle-aged name than 'old lady'. I like it though, go for it!

Umbellifer · 24/11/2023 17:34

A gorgeous name and lots of cool short options for when she's a teenager. It was on my list when I was expecting my first nine years ago, but he turned out to be a DS...another lovely J option is Jocelyn in case that appeals?

mrsDracoMalfoy · 24/11/2023 17:51

Jacqueline here born mid 80s. Mostly go by Jacqui but fine with Jacqueline or Jax or Jac

Allthingsdecember · 24/11/2023 17:55

I love it! It doesn’t have Barbara or Sharon vibes to me.

Veronaa · 24/11/2023 17:58

I love it, it was also my mother's name. My youngest daughter has it as one of her middle names x

Lifeinlists · 24/11/2023 18:02

Does your mum want to have a granddaughter with the same name as hers? I know I wouldn't.
Use it as a middle name if you must.

Littlebitpsycho · 24/11/2023 18:02

I really like it. I have a lovely friend who goes by Jacqui or Jax

Moveoverdarlin · 24/11/2023 18:04

I don’t like it, it’s quite dated and old fashioned, but not in a classic way like Victoria, Elizabeth and Emily are. It reminds me of a woman in her 60s, it’s in the same bracket as Tracey, Kaye, Jane, Janet, Donna, Dawn and Sharon.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 24/11/2023 18:31

I like it - a pretty, smart name. Jay as a shortening of it is lovely.

leighh88 · 24/11/2023 18:34

I hate the inevitable shortened version jackie by association, old scouse woman i used to work with was horrible, i dont know anyone younger then 50 with that name

PoachedDregs · 24/11/2023 18:39

Where I live it is pronounced Jack-lin Jack-eh-lin and Jack-leen which would be my only concern!

My great aunt had this name and was Jackleen all her life. That's how she said it.

I have a name that has been mispronounced my whole life so perhaps a chip on my shoulder about this!

Lovely name though.

Seaside3 · 24/11/2023 19:28

Jacqueline is nice as a full name.pronounced properly. But I suspect you will get Jackie, and jack-lin, which (imo) are not as nice.

SwedishEdith · 24/11/2023 19:32

I love it as Jaqueline but not really any of the shortenings. To me, I was thinking it's definitely more glamorous than dumpy Barbara but Barbara Bach is pretty cool.

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 24/11/2023 19:35

Lovely name and I surprisingly know a few younger Jacquelines - one a twin same age as me (35), two late 20s, and one late teen - one goes by Jaq, others by the full name.
I think it’s a really pretty, sophisticated name.

DisforDarkChocolate · 24/11/2023 19:37

I have always loved this name.
