Lexi? (Not Alexa?)

I really like Lexi as a baby name for DD2. (DD1 is Anna).
I had a great aunt 'Lex', so it's kind of a family name.

I'd have originally used Alexa as a full name... but don't want to for obvious Amazon-y reasons.

I just don't love Alexandra / Alexis / Alexia.

Is Lexi too casual on it's own? Is it weird with Anna?

Is there anything else it could be short for that I might actually like?!

Could you use Alessia or Electra/Elettra?

thesugarbumfairy · 20/11/2023 19:57

I know a Lexie and whilst its not a name that was on my list I dont think of it as anything other than a 'real' name. You can use Alexa or Alexandra or whatever you think should be the 'full' version, but honestly if you like Lexi, use Lexi.

MaloneMeadow · 20/11/2023 20:17

Lexi as a full name isn’t great at all if I’m honest. It’s quite chavvy to me and not really appropriate for when she’s older. I agree with PPs that you need to give her a more ‘proper’ name and just use it as a nickname so that she has options in the future. Also, Anna and Lexi don’t go together at all!

Love Alessia as an idea!!

TidyDancer · 20/11/2023 20:29

Alexandra is such a beautiful name it's a shame you feel you can't use it. Lexi really isn't great imo. It's probably the worst of the possible shortenings for Alexandra to me. I like a previous suggestion of Alessia as an alternative.

ChickenBhunaandChips · 20/11/2023 20:34

Can’t stand Lexi sorry.

It’s always paired with May/Grace/Rose/obligatory filler middle name.

The amount of times I’ve heard Lexi-May yelled across the playground. Lexi’s mum only has one volume.

goababy · 20/11/2023 21:53

How about Leni instead? Pronounced lay-nee

Cheepcheepcheep · 20/11/2023 21:55

I know an Alice who is Lex.

theduchessofspork · 20/11/2023 22:21

It’s weird as a full name with Anna.

Anna is a beautiful classic. Lexi is pretty low rent and very undistinguished.

I would just call her Alexandra so she has the option to use a full name (which I suspect she will take), and use Lexie as a nn.

Or Alexia? It’s a bit different anyway.

Confusion101 · 20/11/2023 22:33

Anna... A 4 letter name... 2 syllables. No option to be shortened or lengthened. Gets described as beautiful and classic.

Lexi.... Also a 4 letter name with 2 syllables. Absolutely no way, you must give her a longer name so she has choices in the future.

I just don't get it 🙈🙈🙈

KatPatPat · 20/11/2023 22:35

As much as I agree with the confusion, Anna can be shortened to Anya or Anjya

jewellyette · 20/11/2023 22:39

I'm not sure why so many people are saying to use Alexandra - I said in the OP I don't love it, won't be using it.

(Saying I don't love it was probably too wooly - I really really dislike it, don't see it as classy or beautiful at all. Which is weird because I do love Alexander for a boy!)

Hard to judge this as I know the feelings generally on mnet on nicknamey names... but so many are now seen as names in their own right. Eliza, Lisa, Beth, for Elizabeth for example.

Sexy Lexi may just break me though!

That's not a shortening at all 😂

No to Lexi.

KatPatPat · 20/11/2023 22:51

It is if you travel beyond the UK- all Anna’s everywhere else are Anyas and Anjyas

belfastthinking · 20/11/2023 23:26

Anna's still shorter though 😅

user1492757084 · 21/11/2023 05:14

Use Alexa or Alexia. The name will outlive the Amazon gadget.

Lexine is another suggestion.

Anna and Lexine

Caspianberg · 21/11/2023 05:31

Alternative long versions : Alessi, Allergra, Lennox

Personally I would still use Alexa though. Not bothered by that annoying shouting dot. Or use a different first name, with Alexa or Lexi as Middle name and use it as nickname still. With any L first name it would work also.

Ie Leonora Alexa nickname Lexi

ILikeMyMenLikeMyCoffeeWhiteAndWeak · 21/11/2023 05:47

I too hate Amazon for ruining Alexa but I would have named Alexandra not just Alexa.
Lexi sounds like lexicon.
I would forget about it and find a new name, Lexi as a main name is too flimsy like a name for a dog. You could have it as a middle name.
How about Saskia, Alicia, Lucy, Viola, Elissa, Nancy, Victoria, Fiona, Carla?

No its not in France, Italy, Mexico, Middle East, India, China, USA, Canada.. it might be so in Russia and Eastern Euro but everywhere else is hyperbolic.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 21/11/2023 06:03

Knew a Lexi. Kids at school called her sexy Lexi. From such a young age. She hated it. She’s recently changed it by deed poll to Alecia. Would that work? She said she wanted a ‘proper’ name.

Caspianberg · 21/11/2023 06:06

We had Anna on our girls list, and the other name was Rosa if that helps

peaceinourtime · 21/11/2023 06:45

Alexa is a nice name, I wouldn't let Amazons use of it put you off

HAF1119 · 21/11/2023 07:03

I like Lexi and think the primary thing should be if the parents like it.

My son has a 'nickname' as opposed to the 'longer version'

No regrets here!

kneehightoacat · 21/11/2023 07:08

Don't love it

Doesn't go with Anna

Sounds like a cats name
