You never see a Roy these days, or Susan.

I'm a never ending story fan and would love to meet a little Atreyu one day...not happened yet though.

I knew a baby Spike a few years ago and I thought that was the cutest name ever.

I'm a fan of traditional classics so would be happy to see names like Matthew, Peter, Nicholas, Jonathan, Christopher, Rebecca and Catherine make it back into the top 100.

For those mentioning David, it's actually by far the most most popular name at my (large) primary school. I know at least 8 under the age of 10! But I work in a very multi cultural community, and although it has fallen in popularity a lot over the years with white British families, it's still incredibly popular among many Eastern European and African communities. Adam and Daniel are two others which seem to have massive international appeal and we currently have quite a few of those too.

My baby’s name is Matthew and I don’t really hear that used on children very often anymore. I don’t know why because I think it’s a lovely name.

Matthew is lovely :)

For girls, anything that’s stronger and more substantial, and less frilly/cutesy/twee than most of the current crop of popular names. At the moment it feels like most parents of girls are terrified of vowels!

Lots of underused Shakespearean names also deserve a revival imo:
Miranda
Marina
Rosalind
Helena
Celia
Juliet (think this one’s already making a comeback)

For boys, lots of the New Testament names already mentioned (Simon, Peter, Christopher, Matthew) plus some of the Old English and medieval names: Edmund, Edgar, Ambrose etc.

More Scandi/Nordic style names for both sexes: Frida, Thora, Asta, Magnus, Gustav, Stellan, Soren.

Mairzydotes · 07/03/2024 17:14

I'm surprised there aren't more babies called Joyce. It would also make a nice middle name.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 07/03/2024 21:52

Ondine, Cecily, Sabine, Phoebe, Aude, Sidonie, Rosalba, Marina.

Tancred, Geoffrey, Norbert, Julius.
