I adore the name Emily and will be naming my next Dd it in December but we are struggling to choose a middle name.
I liked Emily Rose but i do feel the combination was extremely popular years ago when Emily was at its peak (90s/00s) I know they are both lovely names but do you think the two names together are slightly tired now?

Any other middle name suggestions would be appreciated

Classics that have stood the test of time.

Don't overthink the middle name. People only ever hear them at birth, christening, marriage and death.

BoleynMemories13 · 21/10/2023 11:49

Why does it matter if it was a popular combination years ago? If you love it, go for it. We don't name our children to please others, all that matters is that you as her parents love it.

Despite being more popular in the 90s/00s(and early 2010s), Emily is still far from dated. It's still top 30ish and probably will be for years to come as it's pretty timeless. Far nicer than going for a modern name of the moment imo.

Emily is a nice classic

Rose, May, Grace are all absolutely knackered as middle names. Even more newly popular single syllable names - like Hope and Joy - have the same cliche feel

Emily Jean
Emily Kate
sound a bit fresher

or probably better dump the single syllable

Emily Beatrice
Emily Constance
Emily Frances
Emily Margot

Who cares?

If you like it, there you go.

Ifyoulikealotofchocolateonyourbiscuit · 21/10/2023 11:55

It’s a lovely name although does remind me of the exorcism of Emily rose film. I think rose is a beautiful but very overdone middle name and I would probably choose something a little different

Emily Charlotte
Emily Katherine
Emily Rosa
Emily Primrose

are all nice alternatives

oldnorsesaga · 21/10/2023 11:58

I feel like that whole combination isn't unique, but it's definitely a pretty one. Use it if you like it, but I prefer more unusual names.

Pushkinini · 21/10/2023 12:01

I have a DD with one of the Emily plus second name combinations mentioned. She's 26 now. In my opinion, Emily is a classic as is Rose. If you love the name, go for it.

CottonPyjamas · 21/10/2023 12:05

I know of two Emily Roses born over the last year or so. It's also the name of the film The Exorcism of Emily Rose

Hope and Joy aren't that newly popular. I'm a child of the 80s and half my mates had those as middle names! They are massively dated to me, and not in a cute retro way.

tennaeine · 21/10/2023 12:13

It's a beautiful combination so if you like it go for it. Yes I know what you mean about being a bit tired, but you could chose something 'modern' that you like less and find it becomes really chavvy or common or dated or whatever and then you don't win at all!

IdaPolly · 21/10/2023 12:14

It's lovely. I'd go with it

MyAnacondaMight · 21/10/2023 12:19

Surely you can think of a middle name that isn’t one of Rose, May or Grace? It’s just unimaginative filler at this point.

Emily is great, just on its own.

dressedforcomfort · 21/10/2023 12:37

Both classic names and unlikely ever to cause a child any problems.

For me they are a bit played out and unexciting. But if you like them, go for it.

MaloneMeadow · 21/10/2023 13:01

They are both lovely names but every other little girl has Rose as a middle name. Same with Grace. It’s not bad but just a bit too common in my option

Emily is great, definitely stick with that as her first name.

WaltzingWaters · 21/10/2023 13:02

Both lovely names. I don’t like them together if you were having the name as Emily-Rose, but I don’t like any double names. But Emily first name and Rose middle name is lovely.

Bbq1 · 21/10/2023 13:30

Emily Anne

cptartapp · 21/10/2023 13:36

Emily Catherine

Oh really?!

I’ve noticed those two surging up lately.

fancyfrogs · 21/10/2023 13:44

Pretty but I'd straight away think of the exorcism of Emily Rose

tiglit · 21/10/2023 13:44

The film "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" terrified me as a teen. Sorry that's all I thought of 😂 but yes I think the era of Rose, May and Grace as middle names has passed for a while.

DuchessOfSausage · 21/10/2023 14:07

Rose seems to be every other girl's middle name, that or Grace or May.

I'd choose a stronger more meaningful name as a middle name.
Does Emily go with the surname? She won't really be using the middle name.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 21/10/2023 14:42

Yes it is very 20 years ago or so but if you love Emily and Rose. I would go for it. She will very rarely use her middle name anyway.

LambMomo · 21/10/2023 16:06

Rose/Grace/May have been done to death as middle names. It’s the equivalent of Louise or Jane.

DuchessOfSausage · 21/10/2023 16:31

or Ann/Anne. You can almost predict who will have the middle name Ann(e) or Jane. (Sarah/Emma/Laura Jane, Sally/Cheryl/Tracey Anne etc)

caringcarer · 21/10/2023 17:19

I think they are both lovely and a great combination.
