Marsh for a boy

MissTeaParty · 10/10/2023 19:02

I have thought this was quite a nice name for a while and it is probably my favourite for a boy, however my sister is not a fan and said something about "bad imagery" or something so I wanted to see what everyone else thought.

Call him Marshall and use Marsh as a nickname?

satellitesunshine · 10/10/2023 19:03

marshall is okay but marsh sounds like is odd

MissBattleaxe · 10/10/2023 19:03

Too much like swamp. Call him Marshall with Marsh as a nickname.

YourNameGoesHere · 10/10/2023 19:05

For his sake as he grows if you want to call him Marsh at least call him Marshall so he has a proper name he can use.

HoHoHoliday · 10/10/2023 19:08

It's not my taste but I don't see a problem with it, I don't see the bad imagery. A marsh is a wetland full of plant life. So Marsh as a name fits in perfectly well alongside River, Brook, or any of the popular plant, tree, animal names. If you love it, use it.

BoohooWoohoo · 10/10/2023 19:09

Marshall is much better but not my favourite name. Marsh makes me think of muddy thick sludge.

This

He might well be swampy at school, but that’s quite cute

Coldinscotland · 10/10/2023 19:11

What about Bog or Trench?

Sandysandwich · 10/10/2023 19:13

Marsh like bog, swamp, mud, sounds damp, and waterlogged. Kind of makes me think of bog bodies and toads. I get what she means about bad imagery

GoodVibesHere · 10/10/2023 19:15

I do like Marshall, but it has to be Marshall rather than just Marsh.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/10/2023 19:18

It's not a name. It's a surname at best. And a sodden piece of land.

PedrosHag · 10/10/2023 19:21

Marsh as in muddy bog?

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 10/10/2023 19:40

I like Heath but Marsh just seems...soggy.

Marshall is fine though,

ErrolTheDragon · 10/10/2023 19:45

I'm reminded of a jibe aimed at someone who used to be married to a royal being nicknamed 'Foggy' because he was thick and wet.

Marshes are often wonderful wildlife habitats but they're squelchy and sometimes smelly.

the real slim shady eminem GIF

No. As pps have said. Marshall is better. Although it does make me think of him............... ^

LulooLemon · 10/10/2023 20:06

No to Marsh.

He will get called Marshmallow.

Or <shudders> Marshmellow.

Melita7 · 10/10/2023 22:27

Don’t do it

Duttercup · 10/10/2023 22:35

I suppose you could use Marshall if you want every parent you meet for 5 years to look surprised and say 'Oh! Like Paw Patrol!?'

TheaBrandt · 10/10/2023 22:44

What a strange choice when there are lots of perfectly good boys names to use. Are you mid pregnancy? I came up with some corkers my teens are horrified at what they were nearly called.

user1492757084 · 12/10/2023 09:28

Marsh is fine. It's like Nash.
I would not have a middle name beginning with A or he will be called Marsha.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/10/2023 09:31

I rather like it
went trudging on the moor last weekend round some beautiful remote marshes so it’s a nice image for me
agree with Marshall for formal though

VenusClapTrap · 13/10/2023 22:26

I quite like it.

Gnomegnomegnome · 13/10/2023 22:52

Lump sat alone in a boggy marsh
Totally emotionless except for her heart
Mud flowed up into lump's pajamas
She totally confused all the passing piranhas

Maddy70 · 13/10/2023 22:53

Marshall then shorten it

MariaLuna · 13/10/2023 22:55

Not Marsh (bog, Irish for loo),

Nor Marshall. Army, fuck that.

Sorry OP, just my 2 cents.
