Hepzibah
Zilpha

Actual names 😊

I've always had a soft spot for Hepzibah or Hephzibah. I'm sure I read a book as a child about a sheep called Hephzibah and I loved the name since then 😂

Frampeline is kind of sweet in a cartoon mouse kind of way.

You lot are off your heads. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again 😀 there should be someone at the registry office that can say no don’t be stupid go away and pick something else.

Borborygmus and Emma-Roydina

If you want to go nuts with it, raise that bar to Rees-Mogg level. I secretly like some of his kids' names. And believe me, that's painful for me to admit. Fairies die when I admit this. But Septimus... it's got a ring. Wulfric. Anselm.
I feel like he and his wife looked through the log books of Hill House for names.
Cool names, admittedly. Wulfric is pretty badass.

Isambard, seriously, is the name I always wanted to use but didn't. He doesn't have an Isambard (he wouldn't dare name his child after a civil engineer. But I love the name).

JimNast · 12/07/2024 12:54

@SerenityNowInsanityLater , There are renowned civil engineers and architects (and playwrights etc) with quite normal names like Thomas and Christopher.

I think I might be a bit surprised if someone said their children were Isambard and Capability but less so if they were Marlowe and Wren.

(I'm not a fan of any of those last 4 names but 2 seem trendy, and the other 2 a bit more unusual)

I was joking, I hope you know! My son is an architect and a 'Theodor' (one of Rees-Mogg's chosen names). And of course, there is the powerhouse that was and remains Sir Christopher Wren. There was also an Anglican priest by this same name which takes me here ---->. I'm sort of half joking that Rees-Mogg is more likely to name his kids after popes and bishops and saints than civil engineers like Isambard.

Go for 70s or 80s names - Tracy, Brian, Dave, Derek. Far less likely to pop up in a class list than wren, Cosmo, Denham etc

This is the way forward. Call your child Linda or Colin and they will truly be unique among their peers.

needtoeatmoretakeaways · 12/07/2024 15:38

When parents try to find unique and uncommon names, they often unintentionally converge on the same options, making them become unexpectedly common and, in turn, faddy. Would you be OK with that?

Cherubs4 · 12/07/2024 15:56

Tiberius is a beautiful Roman name but for us felt too outrageous to call in the park.

Figaro - the cat from Pinocchio but I always loved the name for a boy

miniaturepixieonacid · 15/07/2024 13:41

The most unusual (quite likely actually unique) name I've ever come across is Chymme. Google brings up only her and doesn't recognise it as a name.

These are all names that were used just 3 times in 2022. Names used once or twice aren't listed. I've tried to avoid ones that are probably exclusively from a non European culture and ones that are rarer spellings of more common names.
