Not sure if we're having boy or girl, but what do you think of our chosen names???

Orla in Irish actually means Golden Lady or Golden Princess

LittlePumpkinPants · 04/03/2008 13:07

well woody means erection in the US if we are going to be vulgar

Bramshott · 04/03/2008 13:09

Excellent - we'll go with the golden princess meaning them! Thanks SM & Buda!

Flum · 04/03/2008 13:09

I like Benjamin.

Woody sounds like a nickname or a dog name to me.

I should pre-empt this with 'I like proper names'

Clementine is fashionable and going up, its quite upper class at the moment. I know a Clementine Orange - fabulous!

Orla is lovely.

Nancy66 · 04/03/2008 13:56

I prefer Clementime to Orla. I think middle names are, by and large, irrelevant. You announce it to family and it goes on the birth certificate but other than that they are never used.

I think Woody is cute for a little boy but it's a name he probably won't thank you for as an adult. But I also think Ben is too popular.

Kindersurpise · 04/03/2008 14:03

Orla is lovely, but would not use it with Clementine. Both nice names, just a bit unwieldy together.

Benjamin is lovely, but Woody sounds like a 45yo American. Reminds me of Cheers, wasn't the nice but slightly dim one called Woody?

Clary · 04/03/2008 14:10

A colleague was going to name his DS woody ? luckily (imo) they went for Jacob instead.

I think it?s rather an unusual name, but not one I?d go for. Second names I agree are irrelevant. I quite like Orla but think you need to be careful with surnames. Benjamin is very nice tho always popular, if that matters to you. I like Clementine better than Orla myself.

josta · 04/03/2008 14:23

I LOVE Woody! It's very different but not ridiculous, if you and dh like it then go for it, go on be brave lol

Orla is pretty but prefer Clementine.

kitsmummy · 04/03/2008 14:50

Woo hoo, a Woody fan! Btw, I also prefer Clementine to Orla but Orla is hubby's absolute favourite name and we settled on that ages ago. Thought he'd hate Clementine but he quite likes it so I have to count myself lucky that I'm allowed it at all!

FAO Clary agree with Benjamin being popular, wouldn't want it as a first name for that reason but think is good as a more sensible name to follow Woody

i love the names.
I liked woody and orlaith at one point for my DC's but opted for other names in the end.
If you like Orla, but didn't want to go too irish with Orlaith, what about Orlanda Clementine I think that has a lovely rhythm to it?

dragonbutter · 04/03/2008 15:03

What about Woodrow?
I think it's fab but you'd need to be feeling brave.

suzywong · 04/03/2008 15:05

Woody is NOT a real name, it is an adjective and not a very flattering one at that
what on earth are you thinking?

dragonbutter · 04/03/2008 15:05

Woodrow is a real name.

Woody could be an abbreviation of Edward, which would see him through the knighthood ceremony.

MrsBadger · 04/03/2008 15:23

oh, if we're abbreviating Edward, Bear wins hands down!

bluenosesaint · 05/03/2008 10:06

I know a gorgeous little Edward, affectionately known as Woody. Very cute and it would work on an adult too imo.

Benjamin is lovely. Edward Benjamin is a lovely traditional strong name

I like Orla, but am not keen on Clementine at all.

At the end of the day, its your baby ...your choice!

noddyholder · 05/03/2008 10:08

Love woody orla and clementine but not benjamin.

princessosyth · 05/03/2008 10:13

Orla is beautiful but Woody is a bit daft. I would go for Benjamin Woody and have Woody as a nick name.

Octothechildherder · 05/03/2008 10:19

I love both of them FAB

pootleflump · 05/03/2008 10:19

I love Orla and would use it if it went with our surname.

I think woody is fine as long is you give him a proper name and use it as a nickname.

Clementine is not my cup of tea and I definitely don't like it with Orla.

Benjamin is ok, if you call him Ben.

Springflower · 05/03/2008 13:27

Not keen on Woody but like the others.

Oliveoil · 05/03/2008 13:31

iirc Zoe Ball's son is called Woody

I love Orla, friends dd is called Orla

Benjamin ok but lots of children already called this

Clementine, hmmm not sure

Tickle · 05/03/2008 13:38

We have a Clementine - she is christened mathilde clementine but known to all as Clemmie.

Love Woodrow shortened to Woody

PortAndLemon · 05/03/2008 14:20

Orla Clementine is lovely.

Woodrow Benjamin shortened to Woody, very nice. Woody as a given name is unfair, I think (given not one but two separate teasing options there).
