Not sure if we're having boy or girl, but what do you think of our chosen names???

Honestly? Are you sure?

I like Benjamin.

I like Orla (my sis!)

I also quite like Clementine but not sure it goes with Orla and not sure it works as a second name.

MrsBadger · 04/03/2008 11:58

Orla is lovely but I think Clementine as well is too much

Benjamin also good, but I would never use Woody.

Do you have a really plain surname you're trying to make up for?

EffiePerine · 04/03/2008 12:01

What about Orla Catherine instead?

Don't like Woody either, sorry, but Benjamin a fine name

SheherazadetheGoat · 04/03/2008 12:01

i like orla. orla clementine sounds like you want her to grow up to be a shabby chic/boho textile designer adn that fashion will be soo over by then.

woody just sounds like you watch too much tv.

puppydavies · 04/03/2008 12:02

orla is lovely name if you're in ireland, if not i'd worry about anagramatising teenagers. similarly woody lends itself to off-colour jokes. i wouldn't use either.

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 04/03/2008 12:11

Orla is lovely but she would inevitably get the "oral" jokes.

Woody lends itself to far too many jokes to mention - love Benjamin, though!

kitsmummy · 04/03/2008 12:17

Oh God, you all pretty much hate one or both of our names! No our surname isn't particularly plain, certainly not a "Smith" type surname, we're not Irish so it would be an English Orla, don't like Catherine for a middle name and we both love Woody. Ah well, I did ask for opinions I suppose

soremummy · 04/03/2008 12:17

If you do pick Orla make sure you dont make our mistake and spell it the Irish way lol my neighbour still cant get her head around the Orlaith bit she continues to call her Or Late!! Think we will have to resort to wnglish spelling for school etc and just use proper spelling on offical stuff. Btw we chose Louise as a middle name.

soremummy · 04/03/2008 12:18

english oops

MrsBadger · 04/03/2008 12:21

I can see you're set on Woody, but imagine if he wants to be a barrister
or a surgeon
or he gets a knighthood

Woody Allen's real first name was Allen
Woody Guthrie and Woody Harrelson are both really Woodrow

EffiePerine · 04/03/2008 12:23

I rather like Woodrow...

or you could go all Blues Brothers and plump for Elwood

meglet · 04/03/2008 12:28

Woody is great! Although Woodrow would be a nice formal name, then you could still call him Woody.

Orla is nice too, and I love Clementine!

TeaHugger · 04/03/2008 12:42

I agree all lovely names ....

OrmIrian · 04/03/2008 12:44

Benjamin's alright.

cadelaide · 04/03/2008 12:45

I think Orla Clementine is lovely.
Not keen on Woody, Woodrow is good.
Benjamin lovely too.

LittlePumpkinPants · 04/03/2008 12:46

but it didnt go with our surname

I think Orla means foreskin in Hebrew

(just to warn you)

It may be an urban myth of course

cadelaide · 04/03/2008 12:48

you have to go with what you both like, regardless of other's opinions.

wish i had with ds.

cadelaide · 04/03/2008 12:49

countess .

not heard that one.

Orla's becoming increasingly popular tho isn't it?

CountessDracula · 04/03/2008 12:49

Yes I know about 3

LittlePumpkinPants · 04/03/2008 12:50

its because she does good prints

Bramshott · 04/03/2008 12:57

I have an Orla - lovely name! [sticks fingers in ears so as not to hear any references to foreskins or anything worse!]

IdrisTheDragon · 04/03/2008 13:00

Benjamin is lovely. Woody Benjamin makes me think of some pinochio-eske child though.

Orla also nice.

Buda · 04/03/2008 13:01

As I said my sis is Orla - she did get called Oral and Orca but it was character building!!
