For a girl?

(I'm not pregnant yet but plan to be soon!)

It's the kind of thing that my teenage self would of loved in a movie or book. But adult me sees how tacky it sounds for an actual person.
Try shouting it as if they've just dropped their heaviest toy on your toe, try calling it as if it's the twelfth time you've called them down for dinner and they still aren't listening, try using it in the sentence, "Poetry will you just get your shoes on and get out to school, it's half past eight!"
And so on, and so forth.
These are realistically the ways you will end up saying your child's name over the years.
And really put the effort into those practice examples!
Consider they're having tantrum number 52738691 and you're in the street, traffic rushing by, people everywhere, child entirely refusing to do as you need them to- now consider how daft you'll feel going, "Poetry get over here now!" etc.
Any name can sound adorable in our imaginary parent brains, but the reality needs a proper name really.

No. Poetry, as beautiful as it can be, is an ugly looking word.

I do know a Sonnet though, which I like.

Oh, I do like "Sonnet"! Is that a boy or girl?

OP posts:
Doyoumind · 08/09/2023 23:13

No. You could perhaps get away with Poésie.

fettuccini · 08/09/2023 23:36

I quite like Poet as a middle name actually. But I think you need to be a breezy hipster/hippyish type to pull it off.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 08/09/2023 23:39

Poetry is not good, but how about Posy? (Poesy is the archaic/old fashioned word for poetry)

Marcipex · 08/09/2023 23:45

I like Posy.

The one I know is a girl

continentallentil · 09/09/2023 09:34

Jesus Christ woman

You don’t even have hormones as an excuse

BlackJumpsuit · 09/09/2023 09:35

No, definitely not.

Posy yes.

I know a Rose who is Posy as a nn

I think it’s too twee as a full name, but nice like that

GunkyAndGungey · 09/09/2023 09:36

I know a little Lyric, do you like that OP?

StoatofDisarray · 09/09/2023 09:42

And if she turns out to be a tough girl who plays rugby?

peaceinourtime · 09/09/2023 09:42

Sonnet could work. Best for a girl.

SpringIntoChaos · 09/09/2023 10:17

Of course...so many words could be names if we just chose words at random 🤷‍♀️ Just go for it OP 👍

Here's my random 'word name list':

Cauliflower
Bannister
Radio
Pigeon
Dolphin
Omelette (obviously only for a girl with the -ette suffix, if I have a boy it will be Omelin 👍)
Jizz and Jazz (the twins)

orangesnotlemons · 09/09/2023 10:17

How about

Villanelle
Sestina
Epitaph
Tanka (chain for middle name?) 😆

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/09/2023 15:22

Not RTFT, but there were 3 baby girls registered with the name Poet in 2021. Poetry doesn't show up on darkgreener and neither does Sonnet, so either would probably be unique.

WetBandits · 09/09/2023 15:25

Hahaha, I know a woman called Poetry, I thought it was a one-off!

It’s an awful name and I’ve always felt a bit sorry for her being saddled with it.

Orphlids · 09/09/2023 15:48

I remember reading about a French woman named Poéti. I thought that was rather nice.

I don’t actually mind Poetry either, actually. I personally wouldn’t choose it, but better than yet another Ava or Evie.

SallyWD · 09/09/2023 16:42

Poetry isn't a name.

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 09/09/2023 16:46

I've heard of a Memory before.

Just thinking of "normal" names like Poetry. You could have a Paulette Leigh!

Rogue1001MNer · 09/09/2023 16:54

ShellySarah · 08/09/2023 22:35

Harmony is actually a name.

Poetry is just awful.

Only for buffy fans.

Posted too soon, my boys used to go to a barbers called Jazz and we used to chuckle that Jizz was the product they put in the hair (obviously didn't joke with my boys)Wink

I think it's lovely and as an early years teacher wouldn't bat an eyelid. This
is mumsnet you need to choose between Imogen, Beatrice, Clara, Ivy, Clementine or Thea. 🤷‍♀️
