Hi, would be interested in your opinions... can't think about these names objectively anymore!! Love them both but which should be my ds's first name?? Gabriel James or James Gabriel? - we (well me really) can't make our minds up and its getting ridiculous. So, opinions on each name welcomed. Thanks F xxx

gabriel james

MamaG · 03/03/2008 16:35

IMO James is a wonderful name, not so keen on Gabriel

noddyholder · 03/03/2008 16:36

why is gabriel tease worthy? It is not in any way odd and is classic and strong

MrsBadger · 03/03/2008 16:38

bit angelic though?

James is fab

Nancy66 · 03/03/2008 16:43

Gabriel is a lovely name - I don't suppose Gabriel Byrne gets teased too much.

Unless you live in the back of beyond there is no way he would be teased for that name. It's really growing in popularity.

I think James is a very 'weak' name and they usually get called 'Jamie' which is really wussy in my opinion.

belgo · 03/03/2008 16:44

I like James. Gabriel is ok.

Twinkie1 · 03/03/2008 16:50

Gabriel James - what a lovely name.

outofteabags · 03/03/2008 16:53

Gabriel or Gabe - fab! Wish we had called our DS that

belgo · 03/03/2008 16:54

I like Raphael and Emmanual as well. Similar but more unusual.

babyinacorner · 03/03/2008 17:09

definitely gabriel - gorgeous

fizzledizzle · 03/03/2008 17:10

gabriel is so georgous

FranSanDisco · 03/03/2008 17:10

James is lovely but so so common now. Gabriel James sounds lovely as does Gabe.

duchesse · 03/03/2008 17:19

Gabriel definitely. Lovely name.

HonoriaGlossop · 03/03/2008 18:11

Yet another vote for Gabriel James. Agree Gabe is a cool shortening.

Go for it.

pointydog · 03/03/2008 18:24

James Gabriel

Boco · 03/03/2008 18:26

Gabriel James

Gabriel is such a good name.

josta · 03/03/2008 19:09

Gabriel James.

I have a Gabriel Patrick. I've always loved the name Gabriel and had to pursuade DH into it, but he's so glad I did.

It suits him perfectly and I like the fact that it is fairly unused. James imo is a lovely name but there are far to many of them for my liking, good middle name.

I also like Gabriel Joseph too.

norkmaiden · 03/03/2008 19:15

Gabriel James, definitely! Flows beautifully.

mummyeme · 03/03/2008 19:16

Gabriel James for certain. Dd did swimming as a baby and a toddler there was called Gabriel, it sounded lovely.

oxocube · 03/03/2008 19:20

I know 2 Gabriels at school - on is an English Gay- bree-el and another is a Mexican Gab-re-elle. Much prefer the Spanish version

nooka · 03/03/2008 19:34

I have a cousin Gabriel. Sweet as a child and cool now (the name and my cousin both!)

frannied · 03/03/2008 20:10

Hi everyone - just logged on, thanks for all your responses.

Josta - did think about calling him Gabriel James Patrick as Patrick was my dad's name.

Anyway, lots of votes for Gabriel...

BigBad Mouse (re: what's the verdict)

Well, will need to have ANOTHER discussion with the husband, who is absolutely sick of talking about it... think will stick to Gabriel James which is his official name on his birth certificate. (Had considered changing it round officially at one point). You see he was Gabriel at first, then the teasing comments started so we began calling him James, but then everywhere I go there are loads of Jameses, and I've been calling him Gabriel again... my poor, poor baby boy. Will have to convince husband to swap back to calling him Gabriel... he will if I really want to, so I really need to be 100%. I can't keep changing my mind, its insane and not fair on the poor boy. I really can't believe I've been so indecisive and unsure about my baby's name, it's just not normal!
