Hi, would be interested in your opinions... can't think about these names objectively anymore!! Love them both but which should be my ds's first name?? Gabriel James or James Gabriel? - we (well me really) can't make our minds up and its getting ridiculous. So, opinions on each name welcomed. Thanks F xxx

Gabriel James

I love Gabriel. IMO, James is more of a middle name

yama · 02/03/2008 22:02

James Gabriel

Aero · 02/03/2008 22:03

I love Gabriel James. Gabriel is a lovely name and not over used. I also think James always is a good middle name as it works with most names.

BigBadMouse · 02/03/2008 22:03

tbh I'd wait until he is born - I bet you'll know which way round it should be when you see him.

I think gabriel is a lovely name btw and James is nice too. The two go together well.

maretta · 02/03/2008 22:03

It's difficult to say without knowing how each would sound with your surname, without the middle name IYKWIM.

I like James best though.

bookwormmum · 02/03/2008 22:04

Gabriel first even though James is a lovely name.

Moomin · 02/03/2008 22:06

oooo I love Gabriel
LOvely memories of reading Far From the Madding Crowd

frannied · 02/03/2008 22:06

Our surname has 2 syllables - lets say... 'Fishnet' (sounds vaguely like).

Bigbadmouse - he is born!!!

Gabriel James is the best
However, in my own personal interests (making sure ds2's name doesn't get too popular) I think you should call him James Gabriel

frannied · 02/03/2008 22:14

It's like my heart wants to call him Gabriel - but I'm scared he'll be teased as people have suggested, so my head says call him James as 'you can't go wrong' with it.

fingerwoman · 02/03/2008 22:18

bah, he won't be teased for being called Gabriel at all.
if kids want to tease someone they'll do it regardless of their name, not because of it.

go with what you love, otherwise you';ll regret it

frannied · 02/03/2008 22:25

thanks everyone.

frannie ahhhh....OK then...ummm - Gabriel James gets my vote.

It's not an uncommon name now but also not really common. There are some pretty good surfers down here called 'Gabe', it is very trendy name and I haven't heard anyone getting ribbed about it.

My Nephew is Nathan Gabriel, he was going to be Gabriel Nathan until the last minute then my sister chickened out. She has regretted it a lot since and has even considered having it changed.

Be brave ..

Let us know what you decide

WestCountryLass · 02/03/2008 22:36

Gabriel James is my DSs name, well it would have been if DH didn't veto Gabriel, so I vote for that!

bluenosesaint · 02/03/2008 22:43

James Gabriel

controlfreakyagain · 02/03/2008 22:47

gj. definitely.

snowscene · 03/03/2008 14:43

James.
He will be teased for Gabriel. It's a strong classical name, but it's just too much.

contentiouscat · 03/03/2008 14:48

Another vote for Gabriel James with regard to teasing I guess it depends on where you live DC has Gabriel, Ingrid, Matilda, Freddie, Imogen etc in the year.

chocolateshoes · 03/03/2008 14:50

Gabriel James has a lovely ring to it. I know 2 young Gabriels and stacks of James of all ages. Go for Gabe!

controlfreakyagain · 03/03/2008 16:29
