We love this name and know v few but I wonder whether others so. If you know them are they in England or is it more an international popularity?

any opinions on the name also welcome.

It’s on the up.

I think it’s insubstantial as a full name. It’s originally a pet form of Anna, or a feminised blokes name (Georgina, Davinia) I know a great Nina who is Janina

SkaneTos · 04/09/2023 22:17

I like the name Nina.
I only know one person named Nina and she is 45 years old.

spilltheteapot · 04/09/2023 22:19

It’s a beautiful name. I know two Ninas, both babies.
Interestingly both have one British parent and one Central/Eastern European parent respectively. Both told me it’s because the name works well in both English and the other parent’s native language.

I like it. I know a 7 year old Nina and a 35 year old one. They’re the only two I’ve met in real life.

My hairdresser, about 30 years ago, was called Nina. Also a girl in my class in the 70s. Both were lovely. I really like it

JamSandle · 04/09/2023 23:07

A very beautiful name. I dont know anyone with it.

User6761 · 04/09/2023 23:31

I've only known one - friend in my year at school who would now be mid 40s. It was an unusual but not weird name, and I think it's aged well - doesn't date to an era.

Timetoflower22 · 04/09/2023 23:33

I do not know one Nina!

UsingChangeofName · 04/09/2023 23:55

I rather like it.
I know one in her 80s and - I don't really know her, but have a friend whose dd is called Nina - she would be in her 40s I guess.

I don't know any under 20, 0r under 30.

Mwnci123 · 05/09/2023 00:47

I like it. Know 2 under 30.

OMGitsnotgood · 05/09/2023 00:53

I've only ever known one and she was a German adult. I love it and have no idea why it never made its way onto our baby names list.

DramaAlpaca · 05/09/2023 01:19

Hmm. It's not for me, I find it rather insubstantial as a name. I like that it's international but it's not a strong name to me. It's sweet, I suppose, but what adult woman wants to be seen as sweet? I wouldn't.

I know one in her late 20s and another who's a toddler.

Interesting, I think it's both pretty and strong. Likely due to both being true of the only Nina I have known.

I quite like the name. It’s easy to spell and fairly traditional.

I’ve only met one, she would be in her twenties now. She was born abroad to a non English mother and an English father. (Can’t remember where from, possibly Singapore.)

One of the daughters in the TV series Split was called Nina.

sjpkgp1 · 05/09/2023 01:44

Lovely name. I know one, late '30s, but not sure if it is short for anything. I was thinking about very similar names today after reading a piece on '80s music and coming across Neneh (as in Cherry) and also Nena (as in 100 red balloons) and thinking that they hadn't spawned an outbreak of similar names for some reason.

BenoitsBriocheFeuilletee · 05/09/2023 01:46

Googling brings up Nina Simone and Nina Ricci.

Both admirable, and not under 30.

mathanxiety · 05/09/2023 01:48

I know one, in the US.

Her name suited her much better when she was a wispy ballerina of 10. She's in her late 20s now and is no longer wispy.

peaceinourtime · 05/09/2023 19:30

It’s nice but I think Nia is better.

Notellinganyone · 05/09/2023 19:50

Love it and don’t know any apart from in books!

Qilin · 05/09/2023 19:54

It's not a name I'd chose for my own child, but there's nothing particularly wrong with it either, it's just not my preference.

I have taught one child called Nina. She will be 8 now I think.

jays · 05/09/2023 19:58

I don’t know anyone with this name and I absolutely love it!

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/09/2023 20:02

Lovely name. My friends 14 year old is Nina.

astarsheis · 05/09/2023 20:05

I only knew one and she is 29, very pretty with a strong personality...and then I was chatting with a young dad in London yesterday and his little 4 year old was called Nina.

I love the name!

CapEBarra · 05/09/2023 20:05

I like it. It passes the Judgey Judgement Test - I.e. if Nina was in a court of law would she be the judge or the defendant? She’d totally be the judge!

CloseYourMouthLynn · 05/09/2023 21:11

We have a Carina, school age. We call her Nina for short as it's all she could say when she was a toddler. I think it's a lovely name!
